I have two great "people" cats. One is adopted through my GF (who adopted him before we met). He is her cat. He adores and loves her. In fact, his actions are very dog-like. I've never seen a more adoring, loyal cat. He follows her like a shadow. He even likes to shower between the curtains when she does. He is her constant lap cat and even sleeps with her on her side of the bed.

We adopted our second cat about 3 years ago from a local shelter. He was 3 when we got him. He is a people cat. He is my cat. He knows when I am about half-way down the block from the front door; he gets up to greet me every day and then expects at least 5-10 minutes of dedicated loving, cuddling, and petting. He is also my lap cat in the evenings and likes to sleep at my feet at night.

I am a 110% dog lover through and through. In fact, I was allergic to cats for many years. But with my travel/work schedule (as well as my lease), owning a dog would be impossible. I have found cats to be a wonderful compromise for a couple like us. My body has also been forced to cope, and I am no longer allergic.

Before getting our latest cat from the shelter, we did make multiple visits to several local shelters. We knew what traits we were looking for and in the end, our latest cat chose us in a way. I can only recommend a similar strategy to others. Visit your local shelters, observe the cats/kittens, and select the personality traits you prefer.

Cats are fun except for the whole pooping thing. Never fails, I clean out the litter box and make it nice and fresh and one of the little jerks crawls into it and poops all over it.

One of ours likes to go roll around in the fresh litter and then he poops in it. Never fails.

I love that cat though. He's the sweetest cat ever. :wub: I call him Romeo.

cats are awesome pets if you're not sure on commitment. they are independent, but will also be passionate when they want. WHEN THEY WANT lol. my cat is about 1 and she likes to be alone and will run away when i want to pick her up and play with her, but she will come to me when she wants my attention and it's adorable. they also hunt and kill most bugs. also, buy a laser pointer! they go crazy over the little red dot lol. oh and don't forget catnip once the cat gets older.

Cats are nice, until they are not. Trust me. I was the happy owner of two cats for over 10 years. Then my male cat went nuts last year and stated spraying all over my house for no apparent reason. He went from cherished pet to scorned enemy. I love him, but at the same time I kind of want him to pass away or leave. Makes me feel horrible, as I have lots of fond memories of the cat.
