I know I'll get some weird/strange answers . . . but in all seriousness - what skill can I teach myself (see inside)

What is a good skill I can teach myself (or that I may already know) to make some money on the side that is a realistic proposition. I'm just looking for something where I can pick up an extra 300-400 dollars a month.

Some things I've thought of - and I know some about - but am not an expert are:

Wedding/Birthday photography - CHEAP.

Simple photo retouch work.

I'm good at fixing computers - but I really don't want to go there unless I have to ( i hate end user support).

Something computer related. . .

Selling something outside on weekends?? Where do those guys that get all the designer shirts they hang on the lines and sitoutside by their car all day get their stuff from?

Nothing illegal. . .


Gimme some good ideas.

I'm in a rural area where most people are not terribly computer literate. . .

Computer support is good for side money, probably not 300-400 a month though if you live in a rural area. Not a big enough customer base.

Is there something wrong with working part time at a restaurant or, heck, anywhere? You could easily make that much with a part time job of some kind. Maybe even delivering newspapers, I dunno.

Poker. You have to be smart and willing to spend a good 3 weeks just playing with play money and learnign the ropes. My friend who has been playing for 4 weeks now about 4-5 hours a day is just now getting good. He formulated so many strategy and probabiliy graphs that it's ludicrous.

Teach yourself Microsoft Office Products and teach in a local college's Continuing Education Center.

When I was going through College, after working various jobs for $6 - $10 an hour, I came across a great opportunity. I knew a guy that worked in the Continuing Education Center and they were in desperate need of someone to fill in for an instructor who was sick so they asked me. With no prior experience, and very little knowledge, I went and read the Course Technology Word Level I book (Spent about 4 hours), and then taught it the next day for $30/hr. They asked me back again and again and I did the same thing for Levels I, II, and III of all of the MS Office products. I had some programming skills in VB.NET and ASP.NET so eventually I started teaching this for $50 an hour.

I really had never dreamed that I could do something like this; that it was that easy. Sure, I had a little luck because I knew someone but, I never would have had the confidence to even try before. If I had it to do over again, I would have tried to get into this area even if I didn?t know someone. I know I could have done it. It's all about confidence in your self.

I moved on to bigger and better things, but this was a great way to work my way through college. It's just two bad I didn't figure it out during the first two years.

You are right, it was fine for a little extra cash . ...

I used to sell plasma, but I really don't like how your vein starts looking after a while...I wouldn't want to do it for longer than 4-5 weeks or so.

oh, and to answer your question: Learn Mining and Blacksmithing in WoW. Then make armor, and sell it for real money. Friend of mine knows a guy who was making $8/hr doing that in Everquest...mind you, that doesn't sound like a lot of money, but he was doing it WHILE PLAYING A GAME.
