Sure could use an added hand on primegrid... We are 15th today, with just 2 active users. Imagine how much you can help by joining...

This is a similar project to the old Grid.Org which decodes RSA keys. We are working on 768 right now.

PleaSe PleaSe. help us... we have a long way to go, and just a few extra machines would make a big difference...

If you have 5 machines, put 1 on it at 50%... That makes all the differece in the world. Thats is what I am doing, and look at my stats.

Thanks a Ton...

It certainly doesn't bother me to see someone with enthusiasm for a DC project(as long they're a member of TA) but we also tend to encourage the TA members to do the projects that they like and have interest in as individuals. For some folks it's solely about the stats(as if there could really be anything else).. but for others the project they do is the thing that they have a passion for doing.

Primegrid doesn't hold any interest for me personally, but with something like two dozen different DC projects that TA participates in, there is likely at least one project that will interest each of our members, and some folks will do more than one.

So don't be discouraged if some of us don't have the same enthusiasm that you do for a particular project, we're all working together as a TeAm in many projects.

Well said NWM ,my thoughts exactly

Only I don't understand what primegrid does.

......decodes RSA keys

What does that mean?

Also, seeing PrimeGrid is still in alpha-testing, many potentially users will wait till the project is released before trying it out.

Now is a good time to get a jump on it though...

RSA is a security key. What they are doing is testing how long it take to crack and how much horsepower. Sponsored by the RSA btw.

I would have thought that RC5 pretty well established that the answer is a really long time and a whole lot of computing power.

Yup... RC5 was just using brute force, with the new algorithms, people are cracking the codes in months now for 806 digit code...

RC5 was 128bits...

Quote from ESA Site:
"The effort took approximately 30 2.2GHz-Opteron-CPU years according to the submitters, over five months of calendar time. (This is about half the effort for RSA-200, the 663-bit number that the team factored in 2004.)"

If we dont prove security and keep moving it forward we are all doomed to mayham...

We are currently working on RSA-768 which is 1018 digit sum.

I sure could use some help moving Anandtech forward on this one, even if it just a couple computers. At this point we are a 2 man team, see how much your needed...

Another RSA Quote and why to do it.
"Factoring 100-digit numbers is easy with today's hardware and algorithms Factoring numbers of more than 200 digits, however, is not currently feasible. Advances in both computer hardware and number theory are expected to advance the state of the art. One purpose of this contest is to "track" the state of the art in factoring. "
