I like my Iphone 3G, but here's some ideas that would make it perfect for me.

* I would REALLY like an app that would turn my iphone into a 3G hotspot. That way I could use my laptop for 3G internet wherever I am.

* Text messaging using instant messaging - with the ability to receive them when instant messaging program isn't running. In otherwords, text messaging without having to pay AT&T.

* The built-in calendar app should be able to work with google calendar, not just ical and outlook. And I shouldn't have to dock it to sync with it. In other words, use it just like it already uses gmail for the native mail program.

* PUSH for gmail. Yahoo has it, why not google?

* Open links in new tabs in safari.

One thing I really miss from my Palm Treo is the text-to-speech caller ID. I wouldn't have to look at my phone and I'd know who's calling. It's an amazingly useful feature.

Oh and if the 3G could do my homework, that'd be nice too.

You can get push Google Calendar and Contacts using Nuevasync.com. I have been using it for the past few weeks and it works great.

I know there is no way to open links in new tabs, but at least they have the notion of multiple windows that you can switch between.

neavasync, is that for jailbroken iphones?

Are there any 3g/wifi hotspot apps for jailbroken phones?

Wow, that's cool. But it seems like the tethering only works with safari. Also, I'd want one that simply turned the iphone into a wireless router, so I wouldn't have to change any settings in my browser, etc. Just select it from my OS's wifi selecter.

I really dunno how easily the iPhone could be turned into a wireless bridge as I don't think the 3G Data and Wifi radios can work at the same time. I may be mistaken, but even if i am, you would kill the battery so fast it wouldn't even be funny.

Oh it can be done, but it does kill your battery like you state. The bigger problem is that AT&T will throw you off of their network if they catch you doing it.

Tethering is against T&S and there's a 5GB bandwidth cap.
