I built another Shuttle AN35N/Barton 2500+ system for my youngest son.

Bought some el cheapo Corsair PC 3200 and the usual stuff, booted up and it's cranking along at 3200+ speed. I got Fry's to sell me a returned Zalman AlCu for half price, and it's running at 40 deg Cel under full load (Seti, naturally). Thats about 10 deg cooler than I'm getting on the other machine (case off) using the stock AMD HS/F, hard to argue against those Zalman's from a noise/performance standpoint.

I'll report back on average WU times once I have some more data finished, it'll be interesting to see how RAM timings (2.5,3,3,8 by SPD on this box right now) will affect WU performance.

el cheapo & Corsair PC 3200 aren't two things I put together in a sentance, I must be using the el broko kingston pc2700.

edit: typo

Yep that Corsair El Cheapo (value select) is pretty decent as long as you operate it at the rated specs. Used it in a couple of different builds for people and put it in my sons pc. never had a lick of trouble with it in any build i have used it in.

Perhaps el cheapo is an overstatement, got 2 256 MB sticks for $39/each at Fry's.

Looks like I'm getting WU's in the 2:10-2:20 range, not too bad so far. Looks like I'll be peaking at around 60-70 WU's per day, just in time for Seti to end :| edit: obviously thats for all my machines, not just that one Barton.

Is there any kind of consensus on what the Seti guys will do until the new one starts if there is a gap? I'll do something to help one of the AT teams, I'm just too lazy to read all those long threads to figure out if all the Seti guys are moving into one certain project.

My K7S5A finally kicked el bucket, so I got me a Shuttle AN35N Ultra too. So far it's very nice, with an 1800+ and a couple sticks of el welfare-o Crucial PC2100.

Hehe I was offline for a while after moving.

If anyone wants to download my SETIBench.zip kit that contains the Ars Technica "reference" 0.417 WU, you can get that from here, unzip it to a folder, plunk a copy of the 3.08 client in there (assuming a Windows OS), and then start the RunSETI.bat batchfile to run it with the -stop_after_process switch. Examine the Result.SAH file for the CPU time in seconds, there you go.

One thing I've heard about nForce2 is that it actually likes rather high T(RCD), such as 11 or so. Might be something to test out... in fact, I think I'll run a test of that tonight, since I've already done it at more-conventional timings. Back with a report tomorrow...

Setting T(RCD) to 11 instead of 7 didn't have any effect on my SETIBench time. As you were, gentlemen

I'd take generic ram over my Corsair XMS, mine will only do 173mhz (a 7mhz OC) with 2.9V.........Overclocking RAM, Ha!
