Sorry but manual transmissions are obsolete. Ferrari refused to put a manual in the 458 Italia stating they will not use such outdated technology in a supercar and I for one agree.
The 458 is the first in Ferrari's range that wont be offered with a manual transmission. This is because the fumblings of the driver would just slow things down. The seven-speed gearbox, made by Getrag, has two clutches so it can shift seamlessly and in the blink of an eye. It used to be that if you opted for an automatic gearbox in a Ferrari it would be at the expense of performance — now its the other way around.
The double clutch is more for smooth downshifting rather that quick up shifts. The new 370z offers it and it's also an option on the M3 (both of them being manual). It is not exclusive to Ferrari.
Sports car should be manual, period. If you can't drive one, learn or look for another car. I love Ford's attitude on their Mustang Boss 302 and GT500. They are ONLY offered with a stick. If you don't like sticks or just prefer autos, FU, go look for another car. Ford!!
And a little FYI, Porsche only offers the GT2 and GT3 in manual. So much for obsolete.
