I had a set go down a sewer grate a few weeks ago. Caught on the inside of my pocket and went flying.

Expensive.

I would try to walk myself mentally through the coming home process. What was I wearing. Did I have stuff in my hand when entering the house? Where did I set stuff I brought inside? DId I put it on the counter along with the keys? At what point did I take off clothes? After shutting of the car, did I set the keys down while I grabbed something from the back seat? Did I set the keys down after getting out of the car to juggle things I carried in to the house? Could the keys have fallen off my finger as I walked toward the house? IF I dropped them outside could someone have come along and picked them up?
Etc, etc.

Keys
Backpack
Wife's purse
Wife's keys
Camera bag
Car (cheap Lojack!)

Tiles are the bomb. They've paid for themselves a dozen times easily in all the time I've been using them. I hate the price & having to buy new ones every year or so (they do offer a trade-in discount), but they are 110% worth it!

I may have to get more lol

Although I've never lost a backpack or messenger bag, probably because I don't live in a home big enough to do so. I use Google maps to save my parking spot so I never lose my car. So I just need one for my keys. But the purse thing is a good idea, I'll grab one for my girl.

I have the tile sport, it's kinda the newer better model. 200ft range vs 100ft.

Do you have a dog? Maybe it ate them. Can you hear a jingling sound when it's running around?

No, but I wondered if they could have fallen out of my pocked into the toilet and been flushed. I don't think so. About to hunt more today.

Good idea, but did that. Had a few grocery items, set them down, searched that whole area. Looked carefully everywhere they could have been, checked the ground walking to the house.

I had my keys in my hand one dark evening as I tossed something into a full dumpster. Somehow my keys sailed into the dumpster as well. There was light from a nearby lamp post, but I had to climb in and fish around for my car keys without knocking them lower into the dark recesses. It was a meat market's dumpster so ... extra nastiness. I did retrieve them in the end, without much rooting around.

Not house keys but similar. While back I had a simi pimped out chevy van carpet portholes etc. Had crager rims on it. We went backpacking and I put the tire rim lock key outside the van (incase someone broke in) and put it under a rock. Finished trip, drove back home realized I left the key 5 hours away under a rock on mountain lol. Drove back with fingers crossed the next weekend to retrieve keys.

I see talk of Tiles. Never heard of this. Links?

Maybe 7-8 years ago I lost my every day carry keys. They don't include my car keys, they are on another chain (I don't drive a lot). I think I left them in my front door lock, but don't know for sure. I changed my door locks, front and back. I never found them.

This is just nuts - my keys are either in the ignition or I put them in my pocket. They're not in the ignition, so they went in my pocket. I've searched the car, nothing. The ground to the house, nothing. Everywhere in the house the pants went, nothing. It's that simple. There's a lot of mess, but it's been searched. I have to think they somehow got to a really weird place.

I hate losing stuff. It's like a setback. It's happened to me a lot!!! There are mental gymnastics that I sometimes use to short cut the finding process. One is, "where haven't I looked yet?" That's worked quite a few times. I might have set the item down in a place I wouldn't normally set it down and not think to look there. Sometimes it's where I think it should be, I just didn't image it when I looked. Of course, it helps if you don't need the item too badly, if you have backup or an acceptable alternative. Even then, though, it bothers me that I have lost the item and sometimes go through the effort/process of finding it until it turns up.

The ones in the bags are more for theft than finding in the house.

They also make credit card-sized ones (slim cards) for keeping in your wallet. Nice if it slips into a couch or gets stolen!

I've seen them all. I just dunno how much I trust this Tile network of devices to help me find my shit if it's stolen.

The credit card thin one for the wallet has been on my mind for a couple weeks now though.

I figure for the price ($17/ea in a 4-pack when I got them), why not? It's cheap annual insurance against theft or loss. And if the network fails me & it's gone forever, I'm only out $17 for the chip.

At the point of the tow and get a key made, but they're not open until Monday.
Did you check the car? When my keys get lost, its nearly always somewhere where I don't usually leave it, like after carrying bags of groceries indoors and the keys gets underneath the car seat or mat.

I too have a spare set of car keys in my place. And two people have spare key to my place. So that works out. I did also just start using Tile, just for my keys though. I don't see the use for anything else really at this point.
I keep a spare in my wallet.

That way if you lose your wallet, they know your address, and have a key to get in. Seems like a good idea to me...
A car key, silly, not a house key.

You can leave a spare set at a trusted neighbor's house or hide it in the yard. I do both in case I need to send the neighbor over to do something while I am out.
