Well after reading though those posts... I would have to say F that place.

It's time to get a job where I can get paid for what I do, rather than getting paid $6.50 to sweat and work my a$$ off. Word to the wise HPKeeper, get the hell out. And when you go make sure you make it good, because I missed my chance to do it.

$6.50 an hour to work funny hours, fuk that.

I remember when I used to work as just a plain old kitchenhand in a pub. We worked from 11.30am till 2.30pm & then 5pm till 10pm, Wednesday to Sunday; & on thursday, Friday & Saturday we did 2 hours overtime & finished at midnight; plus on Tues we just worked from 5pm till 10pm, but we useally pissed off at 9pm.

I was on a basic award wage of nearly $13 an hour, then on top of that we got a split shift allowance of $19 for spending 2.5 hours a day at the pub between the lunch & dinner shifts (you can get what we did during that break, you could say we were being paid $19 to drink for 2.5 hours a day, plus the drinks were free as long as we didnt get greedy with them). We got night penalties too (it may have been only $1.17 an hour for every hour worked after 6PM but it all helps, especially as that's on top of ones hourly rate), & 'time & a half' on on saturdays, double time on sundays & triple time on public holidays & 'time & a half' for the 2 hours over-time we did on Thursday & Friday nights. Plus there was a laundry allowance & a rostered day off every month (but we useally worked that & got double time on that day instead). Oh & we got 5 weeks annual leave a year (& an extra day was added on for every public holiday spent at work), & during that annual leave we got a 17.5% leave loading too.

I shouldn't forget, all workers in Oz get paid long service leave of 3 months for every 5 years with the same employer (but the first 5 years doesnt count). But I was there for only 6 months, so it didn't make any difference to me.

But I'm still going to say 'God, it's great living in a unionised country'.

yeah, that's pretty amazing that we stay there as long as we do/did... I've worked at the same restraunt Bowdown has for 2 years and 3 months, in fact, he got me the job. But we've been working there for that long and are only making $6.50 an hour. Not to mention, Bowdown knows the kitchen better than anyone, he doesn't do sloppy work, if it's sloppy work it's no work to him and he does it again. Another thing that is wrong there is that by law in new york state, our bosses are obligated to give us a 15 minute break every 3 hours... if we're caught sitting at this restraunt we're yelled at usually... then again... they don't have to give us free drinks or free food. I guess it evens out, I'm kind of happy there, it fills my pocket with some change, although, I'll only be there untill I recieve a call from one of the buisnesses that I applied to, and Killer, I'll be sure to follow through with your request.

Well its a matter of balacing the pros & cons - I use to work at a bicycle store for $5 an hour but it was cash & thus tax free plus didn't effect my $200 a week student allowance (a official job would) & it was only a 5 minute walk from home.

There's no way I would work for less than $12 an hour if it was an official taxed job & involved a commute.

Plus perks & fringe benafits can always make a difference, too.
