Number four in my on-again-off-again, long-running series of posts about Craig's List:

1) I love Craig's List
2) I love Craig's List
3) I love Craig's List

I listed an iPad the other day for $190 (it is not important to the story which model). I got an inquiry soon thereafter. We had a little back and forth via text on some of the details and day of time of meeting.

Then there was a lull in communications for about a day (which was fine, because it was Saturday and I was busy.

Then the guys texts me again and and asks for the details again as he was getting his multiple iPad deals confused (I've been there).

So I remind him of the details, including the price, $190. He then asks if I could go any lower.
I ask, "How low?"
He says, "$130."
I respond, “Wait, what item are we talking about?!?”

I have not heard back again.

That being said, I have had great success on CL. You just need to watch out for the scams and be prepared to take the bad (and ugly) with the good.

Listed my iPad last week, guy messaged asking if it was still available. drove 30 mins to see me, offered $20 below my ask (already accounted for in my ask), paid cash, left.

Do you even craigslist bro?

$190 sounds like 16gb 3rd gen wifi.

btw - was this 7 days ago? cuz my buyer said the same thing ("which iPad is this again?")

There's no real craig's list presence here so many of us use a facebook local sale group. People's low ball offers just amaze me. And on the flip side, I can't believe what people think some of their cars are worth.

This is what I put in all my listings :

"I may be open to a little negotiating, depending on the interest, but not to low-balls. I also do not respond to the question,"What is your bottom dollar?". Also, don't tell me how much it is selling for at a store - If you do not like my price, don't buy it. What I am trying to say is: Serious buyers only."

Seriously? If you don't have a minimum price in mind, how can someone do business with you? I don't pretend to place a value on someone elses belongings. That has to come from you and if you can't tell me the minimum you'll take, we have nothing to discuss.

There have been times when a price is so out of touch with retail (ie: used asking for same as new) that I'll mention it simply because you might not know and you'll never sell it.

Who said I don't have a bottom dollar? I know my bottom dollar, but I am sure not going to tell you what that is without you making an offer.

By their logic, rather than asking my bottom dollar, shouldn't the buyer simply tell me their top dollar?

"What is your bottom dollar?" is lazy negotiating bordering on trolling.

I appreciate that. However, 100% of the time I have been told how much it was selling at a store it was 1) a negotiation tactic and 2) when the store sale was short-lived or, in some cases, already over (One guy said, "Last week I could have gotten it cheaper at Best Buy" I told him, "Then you should have bought it last week.").
