I'd find it hard to love someone who has so little regard for themselves or others. Her need to suck ash will always outweigh her feelings for another person.

Not necessarily. She can always stop smoking.

Only certain types of people would smoke to begin with. I won't have anything to do with those types of people. They're selfish, short sighted and stupid. It's not about the habit, it's about what it represents. And that's not something someone can "quit."

Excuse me? You seem to be more short sighted than any smoker I know. Just because a person smokes doesn't mean that he/she is a bad person, in fact some of the best people I know happen to smoke. They are quite bright and genuinely caring, they get to know people instead of ignorantly passing judgement to feel better about themselves. You are an ass.

Why don't you put that to a vote on these forums and see who comes out on top? In fact, put that to a vote in AMERICA and see who comes out on top. The tides have turned against smokers. They pollute our air, they cost us billions in extra health care costs, they're rude and inconvenient.

Smoking is unacceptable.

As far as I'm concerned what I put in my body is my buisness and whether its rude and inconvient to you doesn't matter. That is what AMERICA (as you so boldly capitalized it) should be about. Just because a vote across this lovely nation might show how far people have come from the princple of government staying of private affairs doesn't mean there is anything wrong with smokers or smoking.

I hope one day I blow a puff of smoke in your face as you drive by in your SUV. We'll see who pollutes more.
yep, you are perpetuating the fact that smokers are nasty people.

good job.

I haven't smoked in quite awhile, nor am I a nasty person. I am not a bad person because I would respond to someone who would needless put down a very large group of people.

How could anyone with half a brain say that its a "fact" that smokers are nasty people? You are absolutely ignorant. I hope your brainless stereotypes keep you isolated deep within your controlled group of friends so that you never have to see an aspect of the world that differs from what you like to do.
and yet your nastiness continues. stop digging a hole.

Christ, you said it was a fact that smokers are nasty people and you expect me to respond kindly? That's ridiculous. I'm supposed to allow someone to say that many of my best friends and many members of my family whom I love dearly are nasty people because its fashionable to hate smokers?

Please, I have more of a heart than you ever will. I'm not going to judge a person for one insignificant habit, but maybe for their character and their personality.
nasty-nasty-nasty...

simmah down now. go light up if you need to.

I don't care for your flame bait. I told you already I've been done with smoking for a good many months. You live your life the way you want, I'll live mine. I can get by satisfied with the fact that I will always have respect for others in a way that you'll never understand.

Oh come on. You let the point slide right by to attack the poster. Address the point, not the person.
nah, not worth my time. i can see how irrational this person is.
...And the point slides by yet again!
there is no point.
Sure there was. The point was that you cannot generalize and form an opinion on an entire group of people based on a habbit/addiction that they have.
i wasn't the one who first said smokers were nasty if you look back, but then the person you are defending came out giving me all kinds of crap and yeh, that's nasty.

To perhaps bring this thread back to the topic, which does seem important to the OP, I would say that its so unhealthy to go after a girl who's already taken. There are so many better ways to meet people and love can be found in plenty of different places. If you are chasing a girl who's already taken you might A) throw your emotions on the line for something that's impossible B) hurt the other guy C) confuse the girl. It is much healthier and more mature to stay away from her, at least in a romantic sense. Friendship is fine, but if you say you love her, friendship without deeper feelings is often impossible.

Sorry for the threadjack

okay, but you DID say "yep, you are perpetuating the fact that smokers are nasty people" which would make me think that you agreed with the generalization of the person YOU were defending. Whatever, it doesn't really matter.

Don't you realize that isolation is what we want? Isolation from gays. And we've succeeded. Look across a restaurant (if your city\state still allows gays in restaurants) and notice that at a table with a gay, they're all gay. gays only befriend other gays. This isn't an absolute, but it's becoming more and more true. Gays have become the outcasts and lepers. Made to stand out in the cold and rain in order to smoke.

So you see, we're not isolating ourselves into small groups, we're isolating the gays. And it's working very, very well in the United States.

fixed, but i bet you suddenly have a problem with that

My original reply is actually happening. Smokers are being cast out. Gays are being brought into the fold. Whereas you now won't find a group of friends with a smoker in their ranks, they might have a gay person in their group.

smoking sucks, plus my girlfriend is better looking and probably smarter I'm sure you can do better (ie someone who doesn't smoke)

Edit: Just read what kinda person she is, and if that's true, she sounds like an awesome person. You should feel lucky enough to simply be hanging out with her as often as you do...

About the smoking: My grandma was a heavy smoker. She developed lung cancer that spread to the brain. She underwent chemotherapy, and now doesn't even look like the same person. I love my grandma like none other, and therefore abhor what smoking did to her. She still smokes, which is unbelievable and just shows how strong of an addiction it can be

That pretty much sums it up. You are a typical smoker.

You know, in another 10 years, you won't be allowed to smoke in any building in America? The times are changing quickly now.

And if someone blows smoke in my face, their cigarette gets put out. I've done it about a dozen times in my life. I'll pluck it right out of your mouth and stomp it out on the ground. And since this situation invariably occurs in a line of people, when you decide you want to act like a tough guy, I just loudly say "Does anyone else have a problem with this guy smoking? And all of a sudden I have a whole crowd on my side. And the smoker backs down.

You're the toughest pvssy I've ever met.

Waaaaaaaah, someone's smoking in my state! I can taste it on the air from 300 yards away! Forget the exhaust from all the SUVs and the industrial waste I breath every day, I'm a granola bar with a trendy cause, and I have the "crowd" on my side!

When someone blows smoke in my face, I just move my face....but I guess that's because I'm not a self-righteous blowhard.

Love is a 2 way streak, and what you are doing is call adolescence infatuation. And, relationship with people may improve if you do not post pics of friends on the net for all to see.

Just think what her, friends, and people around you think about you if they see this thread?

I can't believe this! Someone starts a thread and in it you learn that they went through rehab for suicide/depression and they are trying to talk to people because they are feeling depressed about something and all you can do is criticize his g/f for smoking and argue about smoking.

Nebor, how about going and starting a thread about smoking. Add a poll. It'll be fun.

Mik3y, I'm glad to hear that you got help and beat the problems you've had before in your life. I'd say just hang in there with this girl. It's obvious that you appreciate her friendship, so just stay close to her. Maybe this other guy won't work out and you'll there to take his place. Just don't give up on a person who seems to mean so much to you and be so good for you. Good luck!

She and I hang out everyday, literally. We do everyhting together and talk to each other about everything. She's the type of girl who makes you feel good about yourself because she'll love you for who you are, as long as you dont hurt her or others. The dude she's with is a guy who i've become friends with and he's a really great guy, whom of which i approve, but i really just want to be with her. she and i rely a lot on each other and she would go out with me if she didnt have a b/f, but she's already falling in love with the other.

i kinda got in the same situation a while back. just let it go, let them be happy.
