Good gracious, have to disagree. Starship Troopers? Plan 9 from Outer Space might actually be better. That one is a "read the book and ignore the movie". The troopers in the book would have mopped up the ones in the movie in the first 10 seconds of combat.Originally posted by: Kadarin
Freejack
Max Headroom (I think this was actually a tv show)
The Matrix
Starship Troopers (look at the human society, not the bugs)

Why are you creepily smiling after each title? Are they also porn titles or something?

I agree, but they botched that up too. It was like they were making fun of Heinlein's libertarian views. The book rules, but wish they would make a movie for "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".Originally posted by: Kadarin

Agreed that the movie is essentially crap (but fun crap). However, I mention it in the social context, where we look specifically at the structure of the society in which the humans live.

I just watched "Sunshine" -- I'd recommend it to any Sci-Fi fan in general. Not a perfect movie, but good Sci-fi is hard to come by lately.
The movie was excellent until the last 30 minutes. Its like the writer got to a point and didn't know what the fuck to do next. So he took some acid and continued writing anyway.
sounds like every review I've read.heard about it should be arriving on BD via Netflix tomorrow, so I'll get a chance to add my .02.

I'm a huge fan of Contact (Jodie Foster). It had everything... astronomy, realistic portrayal of society reacting to it, abeautiful father-daughter relationship and even religion.
Also a fan of Gattaca, Children of Men and even Ghost in the Shell.
See the trend of what I like? Can you recommend more? Pop shit like iRobot and Minority Report doesn't count.

Yep, they should have used the mystery of the unknown/inexplicable to carry off any horror elements. It seems like they reached a point where they couldn't decide what should come next so they trotted out the "monster" to finish the story.Originally posted by: BlinderBomber

It's really too bad. They had a lot going for them and it was a refreshing take on the Sci Fi "horror / drama" genre, but, at the end, you wonder wtf is going on. They really should have avoided the 'horror' elements and just left it as a drama about a bunch of people on the ship.
It felt like they left a lot on the editing room floor and could have cobbled together something that made at least a little more sense.
