It's been a while since we've had a Tribes 2 thread, so here's my praising of this game, cause I just finished an excellent hour or so of play.

No other game is like this one for me. I plan out ideas in my head while at work It's so much fun. Some of the user created maps are very good. I was just playing one where each team had massive floating bases about 2k apart. I jumped in a shrike and started flying patterns around the base annoying bombers (and dying a lot in the process). I suck, but it's the most fun I've had with my pants on in a loooooonnng time. My Frag to Death ratio is something to be embarassed about, but I'm not . It's a damn fun game.

The community is the only thing I don't like about the game. There's so much complaining about the game, I'm afraid the Dev team is just going to give up on us. The in-game forums are full of trash. But I guess some people take the game more seriously then I do.

If you don't have this game, BUY IT TOMORROW! With the new patches, it's playable on just about everything. Geforce owners have it the best, but VooDoo owners are not out on their own.

I'll second that. Tribes 2 is a hell of a lot of fun. I swear it can actually be more frustrating than CS tho...nothing worse than trying to make a big jump and just missing the other side, sliding all the way to the bottom, and having to hike back out again (really fun if you have juggernaut armor on:|).

I'm looking forward to busting this game out at our next LAN weekend.

I just won this on auction and I'm afraid that I bit off more than I can chew...

You guys make it sound realy tough.

I'm really not too worried about the ratios either...just good fraggin' fun.

Maybe I'll be ok with this attitude...

Must read more though...any suggestions on where to start?

Thx, H-A

Yeah, I agree with HardwareAddicted, does anyone have suggestion on how to get started on this game? I'm a hardcore Quake 3(GO ROCKET ARENA 3!!!!), but I'm having a really tough time getting into this game. I've tried the single player to get used to the jet pack, but then it seems so boring. Yet when I play online, it's so hard to know what to do when your teammates are all out there and I'm usually just wandering around and end up just getting killed. Anyways, I think this game has alot of potential, but I'm just not sure where to start.

There are tribes offering "training" for new players, I haven't done it myself, but you might want to try it out. Load up the Online portion, click on "News" on the bottom, and read the old topics for info on the training schools.

Hang in there. Once you get the hang of the game, you'll never want to stop playing

Read the manual if you haven't, it talks about deploying stuff. Its a good idea to start out playing a defensive role, placing turrents near the flag, etc. Then you'll gradually get comfortable with other approaches, such as sniper, infiltrator (my fav) or pilot. Don't forget the favorites for your loadouts. They default to the 10key pad. When you hit a number, it'll tell you in the msg bar what loadout it is. 0 (zero) is Juggernaut Defense, 2 is sniper, etc.

I'm at work now, I'll go home and post a guide here in the software forum for new players. I've got my 8hrs in now, so I'm cleaning up the desk and heading home. Woooooohhooooooo!

I just purchased it 3 days ago and I'm hooked. I don't play online because of my 56 bits/day modem. :frown: I can't wait until the next LAN party though.

This game definitely has a steep learning curve when you get started. I would recommend setting up some bot matches (with few and stupid bots) and mess around with the manual. Focus on learning how to plant mines, set up turrets in good places (on the ceiling above entrances to your base are good), accessing stuff through the command menu thingy, etc. Try different armor/pack setups, try the different weapons and vehicles. Half the initial challenge with the game is just learning what keys do what.

Then play online and just stick around your base doing repairs or defense (it really SUCKS when your bases generators etc get whacked and no one fixes them). Then mess with offense when you know the maps and get used to the jetpack.

was it a sealed version? I hate to see someone sell a used one to you and keep the key.
But yeah, it can be a little daunting at first. read the manual. watch people a lot. layout patterns for turrets / sensors. it's an awesome game.

nope its not sealed =(

i sure hope that they didn't keep the key. i can probably get my money back if so though, right?

this is what was said in the auction though.

"NO BOX!! CD and manuals only!
(I threw the box away after opening it)
I have loaded it on my computer once - that's it.
I don't have time for this game - that is why I am selling it!

You get the registration number - no copies or illegal play -
my feedback speaks for itself!"

so i trust him, he has 235 raiting.

hrmm , not sure there, you may be able to get another key from dynamix since you have the physical cd. hopefully the person you got it from is a good trader and didn't keep the key.

darn it, i just sold tribes 2, starcraft and broodwar for $25, thats including shipping and insurance....

edit: cryc: one more thing, i think if the person you bought it from has registered it, you also need his account and account password, because i think you can only register the cd key once, i'm not sure on this one but thats what i've heard...

Definatly get the account password. I may run into the same thing with a copy of d2 I'm in negotiations right now to buy. If he used it to play online, I'm going to need his bnet acount password so I can make it mine. If he won't give me the password, then I don't want it. T2 is mostly usless w/o a key to play. If he refuses to bid, leave negative feedback and call dynamax about getting his key cancled and a new one reissued to you (you may have to provide them with a link to the auction and his contact info.
