Just went to a plasma donation center, they pay $100 and it takes about a hour.

Quite a bit more than when I donated in college for some spare cash. I stopped after not too long because those needles are pretty damn big. I ended up working for the company that designs those machines though.

Its a shame, especially considering a good chunk of American society would actually benefit from blood donation (I assume plasma should offer similar benefit?) on the supply side, in helping to reduce blood pressure. Maybe we should bring back the old barbers!

I know several people that donate plasma regularly, I can't. One of those I know basically uses the money for $8 sugar and flavor loaded 300 calorie "coffees" every morning as a reward for donating. The other uses the money to pay bills and go golfing. It would be interesting to see what each donor uses the money for as a sort of exit interview.
