My wife has always had 6 to 7 cats for years as soon as one dies it gets replaced sad.
If you like a clean nice house avoid cats.
When I wake up I need to keep a open eye for hairballs etc.
I had to replace tiles in three rooms tiles are cheaper then area rugs.
After having my first and last cat declawed it lost one of its legs that cat lived another 16 years and loved to be loose outside.
The cat hair ends up in the pc were the fans cut it up to almost dust.
The only good thing is the cats get the mice the female cats are the best for mice.
oh my jesus your post just scared me.

1-2 cats are fine for me. 6-7 is another story.

My previous cat of nearly 15 years, was diabetic. I had to give him 2 shots a day for 2 1/2 years. He didn't mind the shots, but in the end
cats that have diabetes live for 2+ years after being diagnosed. I eventually have to put him to sleep. It still hits me hard when I think about it.

The only way you can know for sure is take her to a vet so they can run a glucose curve. You will have to leave the cat there for the day.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but you'll absolutely want at least 1 good scratching post. Cats need somewhere to maintain their claws. A post with sisal rope is often best, although sometimes your cat may prefer rug or cardboard posts. If you have a larger home, you may need more than 1 scratching post. This will save your furniture.

That's a good point. I've always had two scratching posts, and I never had a scratched piece of furniture through 7 cats. If you have carpet or a throw rug they will scratch that in my experience regardless of posts existence.

It's also nice to get the cat one of those pieces of cat furniture. You know the ones that are covered with carpet and can be anywhere from like 1 to 3 levels of places for the cat to play in and lounge on. It's not necessary but mycats always used them a lot, so they liked it.

To the left of my house is a empty lot that has too many cat head stones or markers of my wife's favorite cats.
Once during a blizzard there were two cats living in a outdoor dog house so I suggested to my wife we bring them in the basement for a few days next day wife takes them to the the vet to get checked out more cats.
My wife did volunteer work at a cat place named Just Strays for years so at least we had free cat medical for years.
Those cats tried to eat my poor conure bird for years without success.

Yeah definitely have multiple scratching things. I have a cat condo (looks kinda like that) that I got from Meijer on-sale that he can use to scratch on and look out the window if he climbs to the top two levels, a nice Scratch post from Amazon that he uses a lot, a Turbo scratcher that I got recently and he frickin loves, and a big cat tree I got at Walmart that he can scratch on too (this one from Amazon looks to be the same one; I will say while it works it's built rather cheap and so don't expect it to last a lifetime).

I'd say he uses the cat condo and that nice Amazon scratch post the most. I also have the stuff spread out between my living room and bedroom.

My sister and her family recently got a cat since their previous one died, and she's miffed that he keeps scratching their furniture and doors and whatnot. Then I was told she doesn't have a single thing for him to scratch. Well... no shit! LOL, jeez. I mean, toys aren't a certainty that they won't scratch your stuff but without them there's a certainty that they will.

Mine doesn't scratch furniture but he does occasionally pull at the carpet where it meets the walls. It frickin pisses me off but he doesn't do it often and it's crappy carpet (though I do live in an apartment and would have to pay if it gets too bad).

first, ew about the blood. lol.
Yeah my wife found out about this first hand when she let one of our cats "have" the mouse she caught. I told her she had to clean the mess up which she did, with some complaining. That was the first and only time the cat ever got to keep the mouse.

Some really good advice here. One thing I would suggest is let the cat pick you and/or your daughter.
