Wow that thread brings back memories, where in the world is Tallgeese?

I used to play xbox Live with him. Disappeared from here and Xbox Live at the same time. His disappearance may have not been planned.

I agree with your revolving door analogy, to describe the last few years, but when I first joined it didn't seem like that. People hung around and posted more often. It was different.

I agree. I'm glad to see some familiar faces return.

I have this theory that TFP = Incorruptible.

Both are entirely, uniquely, consistent in their respective trollery shtick.

I had been there for 16 months. The first 15 were spent tirelessly constructing an impenetrable mountain fortress. High in the Canadian Rockies, my retreat was accessible only by helicopter or perilous ascent up a 300' rock face.

My efforts recently complete, my days now spent engaged in meditation and rigorous physical activity. Only through the sweat and pain could I hold back the memories of what I once was, of what we all had been. Thrice daily I would zip-line down with supplies to feed and water Pudding, my moose steed, he one of the last of the fanged meese, the meat-eaters so revered by the First Nations. Often, at sunset, we would gallop through the woods howling in furious wonder at the world around us.

It was four days hence, as Pudding and I were slurping up the hot life force from a fresh kill, that I felt it. At first a vague unsettling, like the feeling one gets following a flutter near the ear--the head turns toward the shoulder hoping beyond hope that there isn't a 4" anti-Christ stick-insect that needs to be swatted away. At second an intense dread, like the feeling one has following the words "I took a pregnancy test" when uttered by your best friend's [just-discovered-to-be] underage sister. And finally third the feeling of resolve, like the feeling you get four years later after you're released from prison and you've decided to be the best dad you can be to that child.

I knew I was being called, that I was needed. "We ride!", I screamed. Pudding roared as only a fanged-moose can, gore and gristle dripping from his maw, cowering the forest around. We rode all night, all day, and all night again, and day, and night and so on until we found a wi-fi signal.

And so here we are, never so far away as it may seem.

Key updates:

The famous spliff-smoking, clothed cat, the black one, had to be laid to rest earlier this year.

Last I heard about Mill is that he is in deep cover in Colombia's biggest cartel. Last month he had to massacre a town just to gain cred with leadership, but now he's #2 and will take down the whole operation any day.

The mystery of Tallgeese is perhaps never to be unraveled. I have oft laid awake at night pondering what came of him. And sometimes I wonder if he was a ghost, if he ever really existed at all in anything but our memories.

I have replicated in triplicate.

To answer the query above, most people who "leave" do not leave a parting message, perhaps because that forces too much permanence.

It pleases me to see some of the old guard are still here, and those who aren't can be called upon like super heroes when the time is right.

One day I may challenge Rossman's post count, but not yet. The first to 100k will be legend.

Have a great summer

Heh, I often don't even realize half the people in these threads left until, well, a thread like this. Then again, I'll disappear from ATOT for months at a time and doubt anyone else notices.

Quitting AT is kind of like rocking a coke machine. I've left and come back, left and come back. I never really got into very many deep discussions on AT and haven't really contributed anything to the forums in my 12 years of posting and a few more of lurking. I feel more like a reader than a member. I just happen to some how have almost 30,000 posts.

I'm afraid at my current rate (about 5 ppd) it will take another 14 years.

This guy will be the first to break the 100,000 post barrier, he's less than 8,000 posts away!

lol. didn't think anyone was that high yet. Makes my low post count look noobish.

I can't quit. I live a sad existence where I have no friends in the real world, so I made all of you guys up and imagine you're all here for me to torment instead.

I miss too many people to name! I used to have a blast coming here and posting ridiculous things and joking around with other users. Now I'm too old, or everyone else is too young. Either way, it doesn't hold the same allure that it used to for me. Nostalgia brings me back, though!

oh wow...haven't seen you post in a while. Hope you're well!

by nature more of a lurker / reader and enjoy the perspective of the more active members.

started in general hardware, then stumbled upon OT, the flame wars and wonderfully expressed opinions trapped me in. I'll forget some, but members like Russ, Red, Harvey, Isla, Yeeny, Adul, JohnnyGuru and his rants .... I'm still glad Dennilfloss posts. Countless others

sadly, still lurk but more out of habit than actually engaging in the threads. More to pass the time.

It seems in the 'early' days, hardware and technical things were still new and the enthusiast really needed a place to converse on the different options. As people shared, off topic became a place to share things on different subjects or shoot the xxx.

oh well.

Call out thread, ban the OP.
Lies, MK was the worst speller in ATOT history!

That's true most people on here that don't know me give me shit about making spelling mistakes every now and then. My handwriting is also atrocious; an in-browser spell-check and the ability to spend time communicating on this forum have done me a great deal of good.

5.5/6 on the GMAT, 99th percentile on the verbal GMAT, numerous book chapters and journal articles later... well all I can say is that this forum has made me much better off than everyone else in my completely uneducated family tree.

(dyslexia's a bitch, but anyone that works hard enough can overcome)

Forgot about Dug777 (aka the resident Australian). Which I shouldn't have, since I still wear my orange and my black Dug777 shirts fairly regularly. The orange and black shirt has held up fairly well, ha ha.

hell yes, i still wear my black dug777 shirt

For you '99ers I would think it's only 99 and 2000. For those of us on the tail end of the "Golden Years" it would be 2001-2003, somewhere in there.

2002 was THE year. I can't even begin to describe how much time I spent I spent on here and how many close relationships I developed with other people on here.

It's hard to come back now, I barely recognize any names any more (and most of the people who I would remember have since changed their names). I used to have a lot more free time, and lot less of a life than I have now too.

Either way - I at least have started to check in and lurk again regularly...
