Uh... try matching a black optical drive to a black aluminum case like a Lian Li. The blacks don't match up because the anodized aluminum has a sheen to it.

I actually have a beige case sitting in the garage, NIB. Picked it up a couple years ago from SVC.com when they had some cheap ass cases. It is a Global Win brand (remember that brand for Pentium III/Athlon coolers?) and is a fairly normal looking ATX beige tower using 80mm fans... except it is in aluminum! I've already collected some retro parts for it, such as an Abit BX-6 with CPU, Voodoo 3, ISA SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold... Some day I'm going to build a monster DOS gaming rig.

(been telling myself that for years)

LOL. Awesome. Going to play Tomb Raider for DOS?

Silver and Black is the new beige
The Raiders suck rotten oranges. They did win 4-5 games but you could depend on them to stink frequently.

Both my desktop cases (midtowers) are beige, as is my keyboard. Retro schmetro. My cases are actually from the 90's, I think. Got one at a computer show for about $25 (I miss those!). Cheap ass but great! Came complete with a 350 watt PSU that works great, had a terrific professional review online. I hustled back to get the case! I'm still using that PSU, drilled big old holes in the bottom to increase it's ventilation. The other case in an Enlight, everyone loved that sucker or so they said but it sucks compared with the one I got at that computer show. Anyway, they work fine. Beige FTW.

That reminds me of a pet peeve I have with all the case manufacturers!

I'm sick of blue. Ok since the blue LED was marketed and got cheap in the late '90's they have been overdoing it with EVERYTHING!

Blue LEDs on EVERYTHING! What happened to a GREEN LED for power, RED for HDD activity and YELLOW for network activity if your board supports it? In the 486 and earlier era the yellow light was for turbo. (along with the LED displays showing CPU speed that had no less than 1000 jumpers to configure them to display turbo and non turbo speeds!)

My LEDs always said "888". WAY too much work to configure those jumpers.

I like the blue LEDs. I'm just burned out on the old standards. What I'd really like is deep amber. I'd love to have my whole case lit like that. I have a thumb drive with that color, but I haven't seen it otherwise.

Blue is over used here and they go way overboard on the brightness. Any HAF932 owner can attest at their LED brightness. There's probably enough (UV) there to erase EPROMs.

We are talking early Windows here. Life was dangerous enough without tempting fate.

That reminds me of ROTT. That game was 1000% better than Doom. 666 would've been perfect! A 486 at 666MHz is what it wanted to run!

Some of those cases gave me the impression they were bullet proof from their weight.

Nah, only used for multiplayer DOS games. Currently that means Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Death Rally. Reminds me, I need to choose a LAN party with which to dust off these machines (haven't been used in two years).

One vote for blue. Green is my least favorite, my being total green blind. I dig blue, though. Red is cool too, well, hot! Ditch the green! My new lappy has blue for on, blinking red for sleep. That rocks.

What about white? Just show off your hardware as is, naked. I had white CCFLs for a while until I broke one.

My P4 3.06Ghz, 1GB DDR, Voodoo 4 4500, Pioneer Slot loading DVD having monster of a retro gaming system is in a beige case. I think it has a Zip drive in it too.

I threw away my last slot load Pioneer drive years ago after it died. It was already rusting (it "lived" in Hawaii for a while), LOL. I think it was also a 50 pin SCSI version.

Hmmmm.... reminds me that I still have two SCSI optical drives and a PCI SCSI card. Don't remember what the other was, but one was my first CD burner, a 4x8 (burn 4x, read 8x) Panasonic. I should use those in my super DOS machine.

I don't even think they make internal slot loading drives for desktops anymore. Too bad as they'd be nice for HTPCs. Of course if they break, you're never seeing the disc again.
