I am deeply sorry for your loss. It is posted experiences like this that drive me to cherish the time I still have left with my parents and drive me to be the best father I can to my (2 y.o.) son.

May you find peace after your grief.

My condolences Chrono.

Take comfort in the fact you have such wonderful memories of your dad. It is coming up to my dad's 2nd year in passing and I never had pleasant memories of him.

I've got a son and daughter and for me the measure of my success in life will be how happy I made my children and the people around me not how much money I make. If my children grow up with a happy childhood and memories of me, that is all I ask. From my perspective, your dad had a successful life.

Take care.

On a more serious note, I wish to offer my condolences on your loss and hopefully someday they will find a cure for hepatitis C and all other life threatening diseases.

I just found out this weekend my closest aunt has had hepatitis C too for the last 20+ years.

I never knew that. I hope she will be ok.

Chrono,

As much as I miss my mother, I'm glad that she is no longer in pain. And I understand that death is an absolute and necessary part of life. Those two things, and my family, are what worked to console me over the last year since her death. For me, they answered the question we all ask: "Why?" I offer this advice to you in hopes that it can work for you, too.

You will dream about your father for a very long time. Very often, in fact. Dreams are so real, it'll almost be like seeing him again!

I know, I haven't been a member here long, but I still feel the need to offer my condolences. I recently went though a similar situation with my grandfather and I am sorry for your loss. I hope you have people to talk to and be around if not feel free to PM me. After watching so much pain you can at least take some comfort in knowing he is no longer expiercing it. May the Lord bless and protect you. Sorry.

You're a good son. I'm sure your dad was thinking about you all during his last minutes.

P.S. Sometimes I think life sucks real bad

On April the 5th, 2004 @ 8:31pm PST, my dad past away. He had endured a 25 years battle against the hepatitis c virus. He was the best dad because he tried his best to help his family out in any way possible. This is even when he was very ill with the disease. Just two days prior, he was walking around and doing things like normal until later that afternoon, after waking up from a nap, he felt strange and started vomitting blood. I took him to the hospital @2:30pm, had to wait 30-40 minutes until he was admitted, then 10 minutes after some questionaires, he finally got a bed. I thought all was going to be ok until I experienced seeing him throw up blood at first hand. I was horrified and scared, because the amount he threw up was close or exceeding one liter. My dad then told me that he was not going to make it and to tell me to take care of my mom and sisters. After that, he just threw up more and more blood until he went into shock. That was the last time I heard my dad talk. They then hooked him up to a respiratory machine to help him breath and I, along with the nurses, transferred him to the ICU. They wanted to wait until he was more stable and do an endooscopy (sp?) @10am in the morning, but that was just too late. At around 4AM or so, he threw up a lot of blood again and his blood pressure dropped dramatically. I went to the ICU to see him and hoped that he could make it through, but in reality, I knew that it was finally my dad's time to go. The doctor was coming in to do an emergency procedure using the minnesota tube, where it would temporarily restrict the veins that had burst prior and stop/slow the bleeding. Well, to sum things up shortly after that, it was just a wait game until he went. I wll always remember my dad. I will always love my dad very much and believe that he was the best dad for my family and me. I am glad he does not have to suffer anymore.

I am sorry for your loss. Be brave and take care of your family.

Sorry about your loss. Hang in there through the tough days, there will be good and bad ones. Don't be afraid to let others (friends and family) know how you feel -- you'd be surprised at how much good it does....
