This is why you don't go away mad.
This is why you watch what you say for you never know when words are going to be the last conversation.

This really hits home. :rose:

All right then, my goal is to lose 100 pounds by next christmas and get a job.

I've already started, threw out the soda, got some water, turning in early, starting a real exercise program.

Best wishes on your goal!

My problems end tonight. I seriously doubt my father would want to look on me 10 years later and see what I've become.

Bring it. But speaking from the perspective of a father who's son seems suprisingly like you, do it for yourself. Don't worry about what others, including your father, may think. The love is going to be unconditional, even if it is from the grave. The only time disappointment ever comes into the picture is for lack of TRYING.

GL OP with the goal. don't set any goals that are too hard. just be a realist and go for simple goals. like the mile.. get ONE mile done today no matter what. don't care how long it takes you but run as much of it as you can. once you get done do 10 push ups, or even 5, ANYTHING is better than what you did yesterday right?

however many push ups you do, make sure and do the 1 mile AND that same number of push ups the next time. repeat until you can do that 1 mile and 5-10 push ups with ease then add a little more.

GL and we hope you get to feeling better.

Late and dead.

10 years as of October 1st.

You wanna know whats just as bad? Being alive but nothing like he was before.

My dad had a stroke that completely fucked up his life, nothing like he was, crippled in many places...

This happened when I was in College, so when I came out of college to get my own job, get my own place - that's one of the times when you need your dad the most... Mine wasn't there :\

So I feel for you, OP

The worst thing about life is that we lose the ones we love.

I miss My grandfather. He died in 2009. The pain of the loss is only truly offset by the joy of the memories. (I was closer with him than my parents, he was always my role model.)

I am very grateful I still have my Dad. My parents were still teens when I was born. However I am recently a new father myself but I am much older. If I die at 70 they'll be in their early 20s too. Wow, I don't even want to think down that line.

I applaud you on your life affirmation! I will let you in on a secret. At some point you will slip up, not follow through on something, have doubts, whatever. It will happen and guess what? You're okay. The best thing is not to beat yourself up over it. You can do it, whatever it was it was just a pause, an aberration, a small skip in a much bigger overall plan to better yourself.

Just keep your short term goals doable and your long term goals out of reach. You might surprise yourself how many short term successes can lead to things you never thought possible for yourself. Even a long term goal will be reachable if you don't quit on yourself.

I've done some amazing things, not always successfully either. And in some ways the failures were better outcomes.

So good luck and it sounds like you have plenty of people here to cheer you on.

I can empathize OP. I lost my dad earlier this year, and I miss him greatly as well. You don't really realize how much until they are actually gone.
