Screw the video stores.
I miss bookstores/newstands. Not the megastores... the mom and pops and ths corner store. I still have a library in my house... classics.. grad school books... mental candy stuff. Along with my record collection in bookshelves... it is comforting.
And I really miss record stores.
Same visceral experience for both... walking in... tons of posters &displays... an orgy of cover art in amazing colors... teasing you w/ the awesome within... the bookstores especially had that new print smell. Will this generation ever know that smell or the joy of flipping through the used bin and unexpectedly coming across that rare album you always wanted to hear... and it's only $4.99?
I loved that.
I still remember coming across a "used" copy of radioheads the bends for about $3 at the local record exchange about a month after it came out. Some probably baked clerk misspriced it, and one broke college kid bummed a buck off his friend to go with the loose change in his pocket and spent the rest of the day in aural nirvana.
Now i just download off of amazon if i even pay for it at all. It is superconvenient
