I need a game that will blow me away

Also, I finished Stranglehold a while ago, though the game is short, it was a lot of fun to play through it. I think someone here at AT recommended that title to me.

I liked FEAR but I thought the expansions were lackluster.

CS:S hasn't really changed in the last few years. I play the odd round of Gungame which is a pretty fun mod. Definitely get Orange Box for Portal and TF2. Portal is really fun, loved it, and TF2 is the only multiplayer game (besides Left 4 Dead) that I play, it's a really really fun pub game, a lot more fun than CS:S in that regard.

I'm not sure which product I've gotten more value from, Orange Box or purchasing original Half-Life 1 CD in 1998 and getting literally thousands of hours of gameplay from HL1, HLDM, CS and DOD (mostly CS, I'm actually glad they didn't track total player time because from June 99 to around Christmas 2003 I must have logged 3000-5000 hours in that damn game). With Orange Box I've put about 500 hours in TF2 since Nov 2007 plus EP2 and Portal. Point being, you get so much value for these products it makes my laugh when people were ranting about the pricing schemes when Orange Box was released.

I don't know that I have ever been blown away by a game, except maybe EQ 10-years ago, but games I have enjoyed recently are (in no particular order):

CoD 4 & 5
FEAR 1 & 2
Crysis 1 & 2
Bioshock
Orange Box

Everything else has been meh, although, I will admit I really enjoyed HAWX but, it was kinda different, so I am not sure to put it on the list.

You're entitled to your opinion and everything, but I think you're one of about 3 people on planet earth who don't love Portal. Since the OP's asking for games he'll like it's a pretty safe bet he'll like Portal.

I like bioshock, mass effect, fallout 3. And the half lifes are pretty good. I jsut got the orange box for 10 TF 2 is pretty fun... sometimes

He's not saying Portal is horrible, he's saying its short and not worth buying alone. I'd wholly agree with him there. The game feels like a tech demo until the end, which really starts to give the game some depth, but then its abruptly over with...the gameplay is monotonous and so are the graphics. Of course you're supposed to be stuck in a testing facility, so that's understandable, but that should just be the first portion of the game where you escape from it and the monotony of it all. That being said, if the Easter eggs that connect the game to the Half Life universe indicate a future merging of the two games (ie portal gun being usable in future HL games/eps) then we might finally get somewhere.

I enjoyed the technology behind Crysis'. Say what you want about the story or the multiplayer, I found myself laughing in amazement when I was able be a total ninja and jump onto a building and punch through the roof to take out an enemy combatant

You know, I completed Crysis (never bothered with Warhead) and I just realized I did not take advantage of punching and destructable buildings enough. I more or less cloak/sniped my way through the game. The story is mediocere at best, but the graphics are amazing and gameplay moderately entertaining.

Sacrilege!!!! Portal is one of the funnest games I've played in a long time and it had a lot of personality to it as well. The mod Portal Prelude is also excellent.

Get Portal /besides my other proposals - Braid being on top). And to the nay sayers - it's not a shooter or an adventure game! It's a logic game in first person view. With a nice story and very funny plenty of times. Sure, it's short but there are so many map packs, you will never get bored. I'd gladly pay 40$ for the game alone. Luckily I also got EP2 - both games really enjoyable.

If you like RTS and 4x strategy games, try the excellent Sins of a Solar Empire, which is 4x-RTS. If you enjoy FPS and online multiplayer, try Unreal Tournament 2004's Onslaught game in online multiplayer.

Witcher....i was initially disappointed, but after 1hr of playing, it became one of the best game I've ever played. It was named Best RPG of the year 2007.
Great storyline, awesome combat, etc.

I would say the Orange Box and COD 4 single player. TF2 is like crack. I played it once, now I play it for 2 hours a night after dinner. I'm still not that great. But I love it.
