I'm looking for an expanded landscape monitor. One that is something like twice as wide as it is tall. For what I'm doing, hooking up multiple monitors won't work. (I'm using pc anywhere in a conjuntion with a video conferencing application. PC anywhere can't recognize more than one monitor) Does anyone have any idea's where I can find one, or if one exists?

This isn't exactly twice as tall, but I know Sears' portrait studio used to use some monitors (I think NEC) that had a rectangular screen and they used it so the long side was vertical.

Sorry guys, I'm looking for a LCD monitor. Unfortently, LCD's don't respond very well to high resolutions. Plus this will be used by a variety of people, and I want to be sure everone can read text on the screen. (my mom looks at my monitor and thinks she's gone blind

Sony 24" widescreen

I use a Sun 24" widescreen monitor with trinitron tube at work and I love it! I am not letting it go even if the company plans to upgrade to a 18" LCD.

Sorry, missed your above post. Here's a 24" LCD from Sun

Could you explain what you are doing a little bit more clearly? If I understand correctly, you are basically trying to put to full screen windows side by side so you want a monitor that is wide enough to show them both at the same time. If this is the case, is it possible for you to change the resolution of either your screen or the pcanywhere screen? This might allow you to fit both screens on a normal size monitor. Also, some video cards support weird resolutions that could make your screen be twice as many pixels wide as tall even though it would look distorted on a normal monitor. I don't know how much you are willing to spend, but I would think that many of the widescreen hdtv monitors/tvs would work since they are much wider than the normal 4:3 aspect ratio. Also, Sony makes a widescreen CRT but I think it only comes in a 24 inch size. SGI used to make a widescreen lcd monitor that you could probably still find on ebay or somewhere similar.

EDIT: Wow, in the time it took me to make this post, everyone else already said all the things I said.

The Mac G4 has such a monitor - about 24 in wide LCD - Letterbox shape. For a PC, you would have to probably go plasma. Check out the 42-inch Sampo at Costco on-line:

You can change the text size in windows to any size regardless of the resolution. Go to Display Properties | Settings and click on the Advanced button. The font size option is under the General tab.

I am setting up a video conferencing setup. Displayed on the monitor is going to be a video confencing app, such as netmeeting, at a decent viewable size. Next to it is going to be a app that is being shared at the remote computer. The full app needs to be visable, as well as the video. Also set up with this is going to be remote control. So that the remote computer can control this computer, basically doing everything for them. Currently we are planning on using PC Anywhere for this. However, PC anywhere can only see the primary monitor on a multiple monitor setup. With this, dual monitors aren't going to work. Thats why I was thinking about some sort of widescreen monitor. Right now, I'm looking for any options, but preferebly it would be under $1,500. It doesn't need to be that big, the equivilent of a 15in in height would be fine, with about double the width. All the widescreens I seem to be able to find are huge, mich bigger than I need or want. Any idea's?

Have you thought about a LCD projector?! I used to work for a company that had 3 ( $10,000 piece) and they were used strictly for showing a presentaion, then all you can do is project it on a nice wall or a projection screen, that and your laptop would be all you needed, and if you want to be completely free then you could get a wireless mouse/pointer. I loved surfing the web with over 100in. screen, made flash movies awesome! Dion

I was just considering that. But, we'll be deploying dozens of these setups. They'll be set up in a confined space, basically sitting at a desk. I don't see how an lcd projecter would work in this circumstance. To bad too, I liked the idea.

Have you figured out approximately how many horizontal pixels you'll need to display both programs side by side? For example, if each of the 2 screens are 800 pixels wide, you could get a normal monitor that supports 1600x1200 and not worry about the leftover space on the top and bottom. You could also make that part of the screen black like when dvds play on a normal screen.

Another idea I had is that you could just use 2 computers with one monitor each. It would be a little more complicated to control, but it would get around the limitation of pc anywhere only being able to support one screen.

The biggest problem I see is that LCD's only operate well at one resolution. If I go with an 18.1 or 19in lcd, the ones I've looked at have resolutions of 1280x1024. I may end up hoving to go that route and making do.

How about a 16:9 ratio TV? I think some of them have digital/monitor inputs.
