Golf is a good hobby but can get very expensive, very fast. I just picked it up because in sales it's an easy go-to customer networking event, plus you get to drink. You can buy a set of hand me down clubs that are reasonably modern (last decade) for $200 or so, then spend a few hundred on a couple of golf lessons to get the basics down (swing, mechanics, etc) and then a lot of money on just practicing at the driving range and cheap courses.
If you get into it though, it's easy to dish out a couple thousand on a brand new set of clubs, equipment, etc.
