I currently have an xv6700 pda phone.
I Have an Oncourse bluetooth gps receiver for it and it works wonderfully as a gps navigator, but as a cellfone, it totally sucks. I always touch the side buttons and I'm forever clearing screens and waiting on it to finish opening things that I didn't mean to open before I can do what I want to do.
It's a cdma phone and I'm on Verizon.
I was thinking about a gzone.
It's a butt ugly phone, but it's substantial, big enough for my big fingers, and it should be tough enough to go where I go and do what I do. (I work construction.)
Anyone use one of these yet? How do you like it?
Any other suggestions?

You can disable the side buttons...

I guess people too lazy to use "ph" instead of "f" might have not figured that out.

I own the Sprint PPC-6700 and love it.

ay, thats teh smae fone i r hav. (Sorry, had to do it. Excuse me for being a smartass.)

I bought the same phone (the xv6700) for my daughter and she cracked the lcd. She wasn't very fond of it either. I thought we'd really enjoy them, but they're just a bit much. Bulky and fragile, along with the side button issue, it's just not doing it for us.
I thought I'd use the IE browser a lot more than I do. It's so slow that it's damn near unusable, although it has pulled me out of a couple pinches.
The list of reasons I don't enjoy it are endless, but mostly it just doesn't fit "what I do".
I replaced my daughter's phone with the vx9800 and she adores it. My girlfriend and her daughter use that same phone and they love it.
I've tried using them but I'm just not fond of the LG interface. I can get used to it though.

Samsung A900. Works great for me!

Everyone has bad experiences with just about any cell phone. Mind saying why Samsung makes garbage?

I went from Sanyo(3 bad phones and 1 awesome) to Samsung and couldn't be happier.

Motorola has good phones too.

I also have the A900 and am very happy with it.

If you live on the phone then the battery life will make you sad. For day to day use I charge mine every 2 or 3 days depending on how much I talk.

I live Motorola phones. I've recently had the E815, which I really liked, but I went through three of them and couldn't get one that didn't lock up and/or reboot constantly.
It was a nice, sturdy phone.
I went to the LG vx8300 and lost it in NYC. It fell out of my coat pocket and ended up in the cab. I noticed almost immediately, but it was too late.
That's when I got the pda phone.

I love my treo 680. I think they have a CDMA version. Cycle the battery and it's great. Get 2-3 Days from battery with heavy usage, BT and IR always on.

The deal with the Samsung A900 is if you try to use all the features, Camera, video, music(sweet mp3 player), you will most likely only get a day out of it. I charge mine every night so it's not a big deal. If I go out of town for the weekend and forget my charger. By the second day or even the 3rd day I just switch it to power save mode with about a bar left, and it goes all day.

I have never had the phone die on me due to low battery life. Power Save actually works. That's why it's there. There are also several adjustments that can be made to extend the battery life(such as LCD brightness and backlit key options).

However, if you only use them every once in awhile, and let's say you use it as any other cell phone, you can go 2 days(3-4 with power save features which is very useful).

There is a lot of built-in memory, and the camera works really well as far as quality go. It's no digicam, but gets the job done.

Signal is pretty good too.

It doesn't vibrate insanely like some other cell phones. If I'm in class or in a meeting at work and it goes off, I can feel it, but it's not like some other ones where everyone can hear it giving you the jolly of your life.

A while back I had a need for a pda, but I didn't want a windows based piece of crap PDA, so after looking at my options I went with this piece of beauty.

This is what I can do with it:

- I use MIDPSSH to SSH to Linux, Unix and Solaris servers for remote administration purposes

- I use MasterGear in order to play a buttload of SEGA GameGear and MasterGear games that I legally own...right?

- It can double up as a GPS navigator as it can be paired with almost any Bluetooth GPS navigator all you need to grab is the software

- I use it as an Internet Radio stream player

- MP3 player

- Video player

- Photo Manager

- Email manager (GMAIL support built in) + Blackberry + Push and Pull email + pop

- Full web browsing and getting directions

- Google Earth

- Full Office sweet & PDF reader

- Lurking Anandtech (24/7)

- VNC client

- WiFi connectivity (Both infrastructure and AdHoc)

- So much more that I can't remember of the top of my head

Do yourself a favor, switch to a GSM provider and prefereably T-mobile, get a T-zones connection and you are set!

T-mobile is good and all, but depending on where you're at, it is of no use. Any of my friends that come to Nebraska from out of town can't use their phones. No service.

Thanks Dark, that's good stuff.
I live in west central PA, Verizon is the only real choice here. No one else has decent coverage. Hopefully that'll get better in the future, but in the meantime I'm trapped.
The moment there's decent service in our area from another provider, people will migrate from verizon in such droves that verizon will get whiplash.
