I have a Turtle Beach Montego DDL. The bastards refuse to write any 64-bit drivers for it.

I'm going to be installing Vista x64 soon. I need a sound card which will work under this operating system.

I don't want a Creative card, becuase their drivers and support have always been and continue to be crap.

Any suggestions? I haven't found anything.

I have used Sound Blaster cards and did not run into problems.

As for supporting Vista they seem to be the only game in town.

Well, there is a card from Auzentech that supports Vista but it is $200. And it is X-Fi. So here you go.
Asus are coming along with a sound card as well but it is not on sale yet. Judging from what they demoed so far this is no better then onboard audio and it uses exactly the same chip so you might hold on to onboard sound as well and save money.

Hate them or love them but Creative seems the only company that managed to deliver working drivers for Vista. It took them a while though

I don't think you can call their drivers "working" really.

I've had more driver issues with their cards - the cause of many BSOD's and crap with Audigy's and Audigy 2's. Which is why I went to the Montego DDL and had no problems ever again. They just won't make 64 bit drivers because they are incompetent idiots I guess.

How much is your budget then? How will you be using the card?

I really don't want to spend more than around $60 or so but less is better.

It's used to output sound to my speakers. (5.1)

I play MP3's, videos, games. I don't do any type of media center type stuff on here.

Chaintech AV-710 then I suppose.

Also bad drivers from what I've read. And Chaintech is not exactly the greatest company for support.

I haven't heard anything wrong with their drivers. Maybe your paying too much attention to the out lier cases.

It's not Chaintech that you would be getting the drivers through anyway...it would be Via.

Which is irrelevant since the drivers are fairly dodgy under Vista 64. Vista x86 is OK though.

I spent maybe three days configuring my AV-710 to work properly on my Vista x64 comp. In comparison, it took about an hour to set up my OEM (read: unnaturally hard to set up) X-Fi XtremeMusic. I got my card for $50 at Ascendtech, but it doesn't seem as if the deal is still up.
