I need a VERY cheap vid card upgrade.

My friend got a new comp today and I poped her opened only to find an old tnt vantia lt 16mb (something like that ) and it is the biggest POS ever and I am wondering what is an good upgrade this guy doesnt have alot of cahs so we are talking under $100 CND for this upgrade. I was gonna give him my voodoo 5 but his case is too small and it wont fit.

I was looking atound and is there a big difference between a 32mb tnt2 and a geforce 2 mx speed wise, I dont think my friend will be using any features the card might have

Under CDN $100, you can find some MX200, and even some lesser-known brands of MX400... go for the MX400. Or check out the Radeon LE - I know it was about $120 in Ottawa in July, so maybe you can find it for less. I seriously doubt anything else would be easy to find (the Kyro2 penetration is weak in Canada, and I don't know how the ATI Rage Fury Pro will behave with the newer games.)

In Canada ha, the MX400 is a good choice, not the MX200 though. The MX400 definitely will perform better than that TNT2 16MB.

Try to scratch together another 30 dollars for a Radeon LE (I found it in toronto for $123) and you'll be much happier with it than a MX 400 or MX 200. Then again, what does your friend do on his computer? Gaming? A lot of 2d work? HIgh rez? Or just browsing and casual gaming at say 800x600? Don't thin kthe vanta would do any good even at 1280x1024 or higher in 2d.

he is a casualy gamer but when his games run slow he think his computer is broken and flips out, then he calles me like 30 times for me to fix it. He doesnt know much but he like his games to look the best and run well.

Well, then i definately recommend picking pu the LE. It'll perform a LOT better than the MX 200, and will be a good interim card till the next gen of low end cards.
