subject a test wasn't that bad (i only got a 660 on writing, so i had to take the stupid thing) and was fairly simple. you need to be able to string together a coherent essay. really, not that difficult. pass though, because if you don't you would be stuck in an ESL type class before you can even start your writing reqs.

UCSD isn't a bad alternative to UCLA. the area is just as rich and overpriced, although rent is lower in la jolla than bel air/west LA.

SAT1
Math: 660
Verbal: 640
SAT2
Math1c: 710
Literature: 720
Writing: 700
GPA 3.5

Denied by UCSD, UCLA, Cal, and I attend UCI, got in undeclared. Take your SAT2 Writing again.

Don't bother with SAT II. If you had a higher writing score, you would only bypass Subject A. You can just take Subject A, pass it, and be placed in the same class that you would have been had you improved your writing score.

I hated the writing for SATII, darn grammar! I think I got like 500's on the SATII writing while 700's on the others.

good luck on the SATs, in addition write a well thought essay and get good recommendations for those UC schools.

that's my next piece of advice: unless you're an engineer, APPLY UNDECLARED.

you can apply into practically any major wherever you go. engineering at most schools is a separate school and are pretty stringent on who they admit after you initially apply, especially for their popular majors.

okay between 1cs and 2cs i actually have no idea, i took the 2c, and did well on it, what math are you taking or what was the last one you took, because 2c isn't too much advanced stuff if i remember right...and i agree, apply undeclared, though between irvine and davis, i personally would pick davis...it's a decent place, probly better school, kinda cow townish....and if you want a city like sf or la you'll be dissapointed, as davis is definately not a city, and sac is a little lacking...but the school itself is fun...maybe i just dont' like irvine though, i just wasn't a big fan of it ever...

yep, out of state... plus i am an asian which is a huge disadvantage for UCB from what i hear. i wrestled in high school and my GPA wasnt that bad either. i had lingering regret when i got rejected from UCSB, thinking maybe its cuz i turned in my application waaaay too late. only after i went home and joined the military i got to find out i had all the odds going against me applying for UCB EE/compE major as an asian and out of state

You should take the SAT1 again if you feel like you can do a lot better. Try some practice tests and see if you can get yourself averaging higher.
I got a 1450 my first time around and then got a 1530 the second time. A craps shoot in my opinion

Grab a Princeton Review book, read it cover to cover and take the SAT 1 again in December.

I took the SAT I three times and did better each time. Never took the SAT II and still got into the school of my choice (see sig).

Studying helps a bit too. number2.com is a free study guide.

If one thing hurt me a bit it was not studying geometry enough. There's no calculus on the SAT I, but there's a good bit of geometry and it had been years since I had taken that as a Freshman.

well thats just blatently wrong if thats what he meant. It is not the perfect score. I got a 1570 on my SAT and was not accepted into some schools based on my SAT score. So i say, aim for 1600, its very possible to get.

sorry to hear that. I was from In state and didn't bother applying to any UC schools except Berkeley (eng), didn't help either when I turned in all my apps on the very last day (New Year's Eve or somewhere around there).

you sure it wasn't something else? 1570 should be enough to get into any ivy league.

eh, some schools just don't like you or don't want yet another high test scorer. I had 1550 SAT and was in top 1% of my class but I didn't get in to Berkley.

it happens.

That's what I was trying to imply since he said he got rejected based on his SAT score.
