I agree, Dungeon Keeper back many many moons ago was friggin awesome!
I love dwarf fortress, and recommend just playing more DF.
Rimworld is neat/fun, but nowhere close to complete. It is one of the better games of the genre though. Tropico 3 was great as mentioned above.
Gnomoria is cartoony/corny looking, but pretty decent wannabe/light DF clone.
Towns was kinda crap, but borrowed a lot from DF it seems.
I LOVE KSP, but I dont think its really got anything in common with DF. It is absolutely magnificent, and has been since early beta. It is one of the great ones, like DF.
Im looking forward as well to see what happens with War for the Overlord ... it could be great ...
As far as Banished goes, I thought it was great for the first 20 or so hours, but then it got boring..
Minecraft is an obvious suggestion, if you just want to build stuff ...
However I'm sure that you have seen enough about it to decide if it interests you or not without any of our endorsements.
This is perhaps a bit far off the charts from DF, but have you ever played around with OpenTTD or Simutrans? Logistics/transport networking involving some incredibly complex rail lines and signaling can be fun and cool to build similar to building complex traps or pump stacks or....
