Spacebase Df9 looks neat, but still pre alpha and bad reviews. I didn't care much for Banished. What happened to those Dungeon Keeper clones that I heard about a year ago? Any suggestions?

Another vote for KSP. The modding community really is recreating the game on a daily basis too so it never gets boring. That being said, the Vanilla is already a solid product already. If someone didn't tell me it was an alpha I'd still consider it a damn fine product.

I've never had a game where I had so much personal fulfillment, even after I was done playing games for the day.

Dungeons 1 was a clusterf; I wouldn't hold my breath on anything from them. I mean if they come up with some good cool on them, but I'm certainly not eagerly anticipating it. Just cloning dungeon keeper doesn't mean you'll come up with something good.

Yea, I would say if you want a DF simplification Rimworld is the way to go even with it being alpha it's decently well rounded.

I'm going to hold out and see how Dungeons 2 turns out. The first one seemed to be an unplayable mess.

Practically an exact clone of Dungeon Keeper (with the same voice actor!!!!) It looks like there will be dozens and dozens of room types which will be unlockable. (turning the game into more strategy based, as you have to decide what rooms/units you will use).

After reading about it it seems that updates are coming quickly and reviews are excellent. It's not near feature-complete yet though but it looks like it will pull through and not turn into vaporware.

I guess I'll keep on waiting and try out some of these other games first. Thanks.

Price is not steep for what it offers now and continues to add + people have been creating mods for it for at least 6+ months. (opinion, followed it since October 2013, purchased about 3 weeks ago)

Agreed. Dismissing a game purely because it says Alpha is unfair in this climate. The alpha/beta/finished game terms have been bastardised a lot over the past couple of years and something like Rimworld which is in Alpha is more polished, feature rich and accomplished than some games which profess to be in beta.

Caution is always advised but I believe that Rimworld is worth a closer look.

They seem to have had a bit of a troubled development imo--there's been a lot of system redesigns and technical issues--but I haven't really seen them slow down so I think they'll figure it out and get it done.

IIRC the PA art style is placeholder until he finds an artist. Not sure if that's still the case, however.

I actually rather like the art style (for the way rimworld plays it works well)... I kind of hope they stick to it.

If Dungeons wasn't the biggest disappointment i have bought on STEAM (hard to gain that honor with all the Green light games that are so stagnant im sure they are never gong to be past alpha). it was a very odd Tower Defense game, sort of, which I should have enjoyed. And there was actually a glimmer of a good game in it, but the spamming items for the Adventures to look at was silly.. sure slow um down to check out a throne is interesting, but when a room has 30 "glitz" items its getting silly. Your mobs where pathetically weak, and expansion was horrible done as it robbed you of mobs you needed for killing adventures to be way off in some location that the adventures where not even going.

Some interesting stuff in the links here.. may have to check them all out. KSP- i own it but was so utterly lost when i started it.. its spaceships, how is it related to dungeon building? Be kind, I did say I was utterly lost when i tried it.

I agree, Dungeon Keeper back many many moons ago was friggin awesome!

I love dwarf fortress, and recommend just playing more DF.

Rimworld is neat/fun, but nowhere close to complete. It is one of the better games of the genre though. Tropico 3 was great as mentioned above.
Gnomoria is cartoony/corny looking, but pretty decent wannabe/light DF clone.
Towns was kinda crap, but borrowed a lot from DF it seems.
I LOVE KSP, but I dont think its really got anything in common with DF. It is absolutely magnificent, and has been since early beta. It is one of the great ones, like DF.

Im looking forward as well to see what happens with War for the Overlord ... it could be great ...


As far as Banished goes, I thought it was great for the first 20 or so hours, but then it got boring..

Minecraft is an obvious suggestion, if you just want to build stuff ...
However I'm sure that you have seen enough about it to decide if it interests you or not without any of our endorsements.

This is perhaps a bit far off the charts from DF, but have you ever played around with OpenTTD or Simutrans? Logistics/transport networking involving some incredibly complex rail lines and signaling can be fun and cool to build similar to building complex traps or pump stacks or....
