Solution:
-The plug in question was a low pressure switch for the A/C compressor. It plugs into the A/C accumulator.
-I was able to test the switch by shorting the wires on the plug. When I did this the compressor kicked on and the air blew cold.
-Bought a new switch from the parts store for about 12 bucks -the threads on this new switch matched the ports on the A/C refrigerant canister with no problems.
-Read pressures with a gauge and adjusted the set screw on the switch to shut off at correct pressure. (I don't know what exactly the pressure was - the O'reilly's guy checked it for me.)
-FIXED!
HUGE Thanks to Evadman and flyfish!!

So, I was looking under the hood and notice this part handing by a wire. I dont know what it is or where to connect it at!
Helpful stuffs:
-1993 Ford Ranger 4cyl 5spd
-(while looking at the engine compartment from front bumper)- this part was hanging on a wire that connected to two black boxes on the left side of the firewall. (It looked like it was connected to two black boxes though, the wire was in that plastic wire routing shield.)
-One of these boxes has tubing going to the AC compressor.
-The part:
On the wire end it has two pins. Between these two pins is a screw (i took it apart and under that screw is a conical piece of metal sitting on a spring.)
The other end is female and has threads inside of it. At the bottom of this end, there is a pin and a small hole beside the pin.
-Numbers stamped around the part: 9917 89360 D-8 and the roman numeral II
It almost reminds me of the oil pressure sending unit on my chevy cheyenne. But, this was on a wire coming from a box on the firewall.
Existing problems with the truck:
-AC doesnt work - compressor won't turn on.
-Occasionally the oil light stays on after startup - I attributed this to electrical short in the gauges (the courtesy lights come on and off whenever they want).
P.Brake light comes on whenever it wants.
Turn signal courtesy lights randomly illuminate or blink.
Fuel gauge reads randomly.
The truck has lots of character. But, I paid $500 for it 6 months ago. I'm just wondering what this sensor goes to.
PICS:
This is the wire the part plugs in to. To the left of my hand is the passenger fender. The top of the pic is the firewall.
This is the part in question with the wire plugged in to it. The wires are colored Purple and Green/Orange.
The threaded end up of the part.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
