I need help desperately!

Ok, I don't know if i can summarize all this in one post but I'll try...here goes:

I have roadrunner premium cable internet service...and basically it cuts out all the time and i have to powercycle the modem and restart the computer in order to get it back on the internet. This works for a few minutes then boop, it cuts out again and i have to powercycle again.

There's more...

The signal from the cable modem NEVER goes out...the lights blink the same and everything is normal. I even called during one of the cut outs and the woman said she showed no sign that the signal was ever lost...so she suggested upgrading my cable modem...so I did. Didn't take more than 5 minutes when...boop...the internet cut off.

This happens in every single setup I try...I normally try to run wireless (computer, laptop, x-box)...the connection drops almost instantly when having more than one connected at once...but I even tried just the direct connection to the cable modem...woke up and the internet was off...again, lights on the modem blinking normally...

I run WINXP service pack 2...no firewalls or anything like that...my wireless stuff is netgear super g 108 mbps...cable modem is a motorola surfboard sb5100 series.

i think that's all...if anyone can help I would appreciate it so much...I'd hate to call up the computergeeks and pay 159$ so they can come out here and tell me to buy new stuff.

I assume you have a router, have you tried directly connecting to the cable modem to see if it's an modem/isp issue or a router issue?

Have you checked if it's a DHCP issue? Or a bad NIC? Definately take the Router & XBOX out of the equation and see where the failure is

In some rare occasions if cable company has equipment on your building's roof, it gets overheat in the summer and there's basically nothing you can do about it until they move it somewhere else. Check to see if your neighbors have the same problem.
usually RR is very good at service calls; tell them to come out and swap you a new modem and make a new coax cable. Then have the technician test the signal strength on site.

edit:
Also, if I remember correctly, RR uses some sort of isolator to differentiate cable modem signals from cable TV signals. So make them give you a new isolator as well.

This is definitely a problem for your provider. If you are connecting directly to the modem and lose connectivity then they are the ones to call
