I have run it at 550mkz rock solid. But when i try to run it at 600 it wont boot. I have only tried fidling with the fsb. I dont know if a need to change voltage. I have a Abit 440bx.
Thanx in advance
EDIT:Running 128megs of Pc100(generic),sdlive,3com modem, and tnt2, don't know if this helps, but here it is anyways.

You've probably reached the limit of the cpu ,they're not very good overclockers. Before giving up though try bumping up the cpu voltage in the smallest steps until (if) it boots to see that helps .Don't exceed 10% if you have just the standard Heatsink/Fan though.
You can't alter the multiplier BTW.

better cooling can help. Most can reach 600 at higher voltages though(get better cooling)

As I recently found out there isn't too much choice for the SECC2 PIII's ,you either buy a monster hsf like the Alpha P3125S (65mm tall)(which is expensive too) or GlobalWin VOS32+ which is ridiculously large(100mm inc fans) but better priced.Or there's the much smaller Globalwin VNS04 (about 41mm tall incl fans) which is only a little bigger than the std hsf.

I got my info (partly) from here BTW OcUK

try a slot 1 golden orb cooler on that katami. You should be able to bick one up for $10-$15 (look in forsale/for trade forum).

Choosing a higher cpu voltage may allow you to select a higher cpu speed ,eg my old Cel 366 was not stable at 2v @ 550 MHz ,but at 2.1v it was fine.
The only way of overclocking a PIII is to increase the FSB speed. Also in many boards you need to disable speed error hold in the bios (usually in the same place as the FSB manual selection).

To find out what cpu you have you need the S code printed on it.

I had a 550 Katmai and the fastest it would go is 632mhz @ 115FSB. The next FSB step was 124 and I didn't even try it as I was already at 2.2V and didn't feel safe in trying it.

110-115FSB might be about as fast as you can go with a Katmai. I'm sure it would go faster but at what cost.

The 450 Katmai were the best OCers, especially since some had the same L2 cache chips as the 600s. The 500, 550, and 600s were less and less OCable as 600 was the top chip at the time. It all depends on the L2 cache with the Katmai chips.
