What you need to do is find the horizontal and vertical frequency ranges for your monitor (or the preset VESA timings table) so that you can choose a refresh rate that won't damage it. The NVIDIA video control panel should have refresh rate forcing options.
If you know the monitor's specs (the horizontal scan rate, in particular), you can make your own inf driver file for it. Rivatuner is the easiest way to make it.
