I need honest opinions about the Dell 2007FPW

Well, the time has come to replacemy aging 17" viewsonic.

I really wanna make this upgrade worth it and not settlefor another tiny 17" or 19" display. I've already had the chance to check out my neighbor's 21" Widescreen from Gateway and I loved it.

I was looking online just now for LCD monitors and I found the 2007FPW for $359 on Dell's website. THis is an awesome deal that I am ready to pull the trigger on, but I do have concerns.

1. 16ms response time. My computer is used mainly for fast paced FPS gaming so ghosting is a big issue with me. My old viewsonic was 16ms, but it didnt ghost much at all. Does this monitor perform well in games?

2. Will Dell let me return it for a full refund if I dont like it?

3. HAs the gradient banding issue been resolved? I saw something in another thread about a firmware release, but this new firmware was actually just disabling the Faroudja video processing?

THanks for any incite. I plan to buy a monitor today so if you have any other suggestions, feel free to lay it on me.

My budget is probably $450 max

Wow. Very nice alternative me thinks.

The only reason I am still leaning towards the Dell is the Customer Support. If I ahve issues with the monitor, I know Dell will send me replacement after replacement. I know they will give me a full refund if I dont like the monitor.

Basically I am just being cautious about customer support and return policies, especially with something as finnicky as an LCD monitor.

Can someone with a viewsonic chime in on this? And yes, I have a viewsonic, but in three years I have never had to call or deal with them.

I have played many games on my 2001FP and had no ghosting issues at all. afaik they arent much different except mine is 4:3 while the 2007FP is 16:9

You're talking to someone that owns the monitor.

I love it, and mine arrived without any dead/stuck pixels. The colors are very nice, and text is quite sharp. No ghosting in games. The only "problem" with the display is minimal backlight bleeding on completely black screens. As many of the reviewers have stated at Newegg, this bleeding is not noticeable at all while gaming or watching movies (except when there are black scenes).

All in all, a great monitor.

Dell is AMAZING with support man.

I had some dead pixels in my first 2005fpw, I called them, they sent me one that day that arrived BEFORE 10AM the following day. I was shocked.

I'm really close to jumping on this deal, but I wonder if anyone on these forums is using this monitor with an X1900XTX. I'm still not convinced that the problem with my 17" Viewsonic is not related to my XTX. A quick google search of "X1900XTX + Viewsonic + Blank screen" pops up a few results that indicate others are having the same problem I was having.

I don't know if you read any of the previous thread regarding the 2007WFP, but I posted my thoughts about it verus my Gateway FPD2185W, which is the same monitor that your neighbor owns. If you are willing to spend up to $450, then forget the Dell completely. The colors are completely washed out compared to the Gateway, no matter how much I tweak it. I am running both via DVI, so having an analog vs digital signal is not a factor. I did not notice any issues with ghosting in either FarCry or BF2 with either monitor, although I feel the Gateway is a little faster. I would suggest picking up either the Gateway or the HP F2105, which is another excellent 21" panel. Both can be had new on Ebay for under $450.

The gateway is beautiful, but definately out of my price range. I really dont feel like going through the hassle of flea bay either.

Anyone else have any comments?

I really like that Viewsonic, but like I said, I'm still not convinced that the problem with my current monitor isnt some weird compatibility issue with Viewsonic.

If I get that Viewsonic from Newegg, what is their return policy like for LCDs? If it turns out I have the same problem with this new Viewsonic that I have with my current one, will Newegg let me return it for a full refund and not hit me with a 15% restocking fee?

A lot of NewEgg items do not allow for returns - only exchanges. IN my experience they usually do not like returns unless the product is defective. If you can, you should try another LCD on your system, to try and trouble the souce of your current problem.

The system works fine with my fruend's 21" Gateway. Furthermore, my LCD that I am replacing works fine in my friend's system.

My viewsonic will only successfully display Windows if my friends Gateway is plugged in first, then I inplug it and then I plug my monitor in.

This is the problem, help if u can.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this yet, but it's been all over the Dell support forums that the 2007WFP (You did mean WFP and not FPW, right?) suffers from banding.

A link in here

Just so you are aware.

I was going to get a Dell instead of the Viewsonic for only one reason....support. But it seems that every single 2007 has banding issues and it will have to be sent back for repair/replacement. A supposed fix has been released by Dell, and even if it works, any 2007 you buy in the near future will still have to be sent back to Dell so you they can "fix" it.

Personally I'd wait to see if this fix actually works, and if it does, they get all the old ones replaced before you actually make a purchase.

Ahh, that's right. My brain just completely relapsed, and I forgot they made a 4:3 2007
But yes, I've been hearing numerous complaints about the XXX7 series stuff. I really hope Dell does come through and gets the problem fixed.

What's the difference between the 2007WFP and the 2007FPW?

The 2007WFP is widescreen @ 1650x1050, and the 2007FPW is 4:3 @ 1600x1200.

So what about Newegg's return policy? Anyone bought a monitor from Newegg lately?

I jsut wanna make sure that if I buy that Viewsonic and it doesnt work, they're going to let me return it without a hassle.

The 2007WFP is widescreen @ 1650x1050, and the 2007FPW is 4:3 @ 1600x1200.

FPW is listed as "flat panel wide" on Dell's site and certainly looks like a 16:10 LCD.

There is no product manual for 2007FPW, and there is no store entry for 2007WFP. Either Dell's just a bit confused about their part numbers, or one display is for the U.S. while the other is for the EU, and they both share the same manuals.

The 4:3 model is 2007FP - no W in there:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=04&sku=20074YR

(Note the big difference in aspect ratio between the pictures of the various 2007 models.)

Had a 2001FP for 2 years, just got a 2007WFP (the wide one, stupid Dell) and love it except for teh banding. I play lots of games, FPS and other, and have never seen ghosting or anything, but I don't think I'm very picky either. Would love the 2007WFP 100% if it weren't for the banding.

I think I am going to call Newegg on Tuesday and ask them about their return policy on LCD monitors. If they say they'll take it back and give me refund if I have problems, then Viewsonic it is. Just looking at the spec sheet, the Viewsonic is the most capable monitor out of the Viewsonic, Dell and BenQ.

If they even hint that they will give me crap if I try and return it for a refund then I think I'm gonna go with the BenQ, even though it only has a contrast ratio of 600:1.

I just cant bring myself to spend $40 more (compared to the Viewsonic) or $60 more (compared to the BenQ) for the Dell which is obviously flawed.

I would stick with Dell. remember the adage "you get what you pay for" you sounded pretty adamant about the return policies for the monitor. at least your know what you CAN do with Dell, as opposd what you MIGHT be able to do at newegg (which if i remember correctly they do not refund LCD's unless you have eight or more dead/stuck pixels)

I would wait just a little bit to see reports on Dell's fix. If it works, and there's basically no drawback to it (it doesn't introduce other problems or anything due to the processing being turned off), then I'd go for the Dell (which if it wasn't for the banding, I think would be bar none the best out of those, since its adjustable, has good aesthetics, and they have a very nice return policy compared to most places).

It sounds like the Viewsonic is quite nice, especially if you game, but I'm not a fan of most of their monitors in general and I don't like the limited adjustability nor the aesthetics of it.
