I'm pretty knowledgable about desktop PC's, but I have no idea what's going on in the notebook scene. My girlfriend wants a new laptop, so I decided to come to you guys first. She wants to get the "best bang for the buck". Her budget is around $1,500. She will be useing this computer for watching DVD's and playing SIMS 2. She'll be useing it to replace her desktop computer, but also for long flights between Hawaii and California. If you need any other info, please ask. Thank you.

You can get an emachines m6805 for for 1150. It will play game sand movies fine and last her a while. If she will be using it on long flights you might want to consider an extra battery because you can probably only play 1-1.5 movies on one battery.( about 2.5 hours)
hers a link

Will she be carrying it around much? In other words is weight a consideration?

bigal: that looks like a great machine. Do you know if they sell them at best buy, compusa, etc.? She doesn't want to buy it online, she wwants to get it in a store so she can "play" with it first. To see if she likes the feel of it.

Abhi: No, she probably won't be carrying it around very often, the weight shouldn't be a factor. If there was something avaliable with the same system specs and one was lighter than she would definitly want the lighter one though.

Well I don't know if you can get the m6805 at BB anymore as it is the older model but i was in BB last week and they had the m6810 and m6811 in stock but i cant remember the prices( i think they were 1400 and 1500 respectivley) Go to best buy and play with those models because the external features are the same as the m6805. THey just have upgraded internal hardware.

Just go to Costco and check out the laptops there. See if you can get the display for a lower price.

EDIT: You could also check THIS out, posted in another 1500 dollar thread. Curretnly at $760.

i'd go w/ an IBM. i have a T22 and i'm still using it. i love it. but IBM's are expensive. in which case i would get either a Toshiba or an HP/Compaq. the new DV1000 is nice. also my sister has a Compaq x1000, those things are great. i love the 15.4" widescreen. definitely get a Centrino Processor, the new Dothans are nice and better than the older Benias (sp?). the new Dothans have bigger cache i believe. but my sister has a CentrinoA (Benias) and it runs really well. the HP DV1000 and the X1000 can be found in your price range.

Okay, thanks alot for the help

We checked out those e-machines at Best Buy. We decided to get the cheaper one. I forget the model number. I think it was the 6810.

Best buy is out of the m6811 - and emachines says they are not getting anymore. The emachines website says only jandr sells the 6810.
