<< Yep, and I could get hit by a car while crossing the street! Everyday life simply involves risk. Face it, and be a man about it! >>

Does that mean that people should'nt be concerned about their future? With terrorists strikes very likely to occur in the near future it would be sensible to be alert and aware of your surroundings.

I could be wrong (and I certaintly hope so) but I'm thinking that whatever these terrorists have planned is already in place just waiting to be executed. Right now security has been tightened up all over the United States, certain buildings and all airports are being heavily scrutinized. But has it ever occured to anyone that explosives could have been placed in certain targets ahead of time? Also with the holiday season just around the corner its very like that shopping malls and other places that draw large crowds during this time of the year would be a likely place for an attack.

Its unsettling to think about what could happen over the next few weeks

Agreed.

Anthrax? Not really worried about it since it's not that easy to build a bio weapon and use it effectively. I saw an interview witha guy from the CDC over the weekend saying that once it's in the air it begins to disperse so quickly that it is only effective in a very close range and for only a minute or two.

This is what I've heard also. Its a very difficult weapon to truly get out there and cause real damage with.

Bin Laden? Not worried at all....he will be running for his life from now until he's taking a dirt nap. I just hope Marine Force Recon, the SEALS, or Green Berets gut him when they catch him.

And thats if they're feeling forgiving.

3. Another terrorists attack? Yep...one will probably happen but again we can't live in fear.

Am I the only one on here that lived during the cold war? The threat of nukes dropping out of the sky scared me a helluva lot more than this current situation.

No, we really can't. You're still more likely to die of lung disease or getting killed in a car accident - way way way more likely in fact. Most of us here were born after the height of the cold war, thank God, but I am totally sure it was more scary (and rightfully so) than this - not to underplay this, but a major terrorist attack pales in comparison to a dozen ICBMs with massive nuclear war heads coming in at your city at Mach 15

Now we need to watch suitcases, not the sky. I mean, living in fear isn't really living, so why waste time with that? We should all remain very aware, but try to continue with our lives as normal.

I would'nt count on it. If you think back to other individuals who were pursued how many of them were ever captured or assassinated?

Hitler
Kahdafi (sp)
Hussain
Castro

Bin Laden is a man with very devoted and fanatical followers, this is in addition to the fact that he is very well funded. These 2 factors will make him a very elusive person to capture. Also keep in mind that he has the support of the ruling party of Afghanistan and many citizens and prominent religion leaders in Pakistan are sympathetic to his cause.

THe Taliban won't be rulling forever.

Hitler killed himself. Hussein ran an entire nation and had significantly more power than Bin Laden. I have no doubt in my mind that he will not be caught alive. He has said as much and it seems surprising to think otherwise. Eventually one of these attacks will hit him or he'll be taken out by a spec ops team (I also think this will be difficult, however). Hitler would have been caught, but killed himself instead. Hussein was allowed to go. Allies pulled back. Bin Laden will never have another restful sleep because we will not rest until he is captured or killed. It simply will not happen.

Anthrax is easy to make. The hard part is delivery. But from what has been said 200lbs of anthrax could kill 1000s of people if delivered right. A ton could probably wipe out a city. They dont have the means to deliver it so, its not that big of threat.

I'm scared for the kids and everyone else in America as well as for our allies. This is the time for us to show we will not fall or be torn apart.

If I die I sincerely hope I can take a terrorist with me. :|

Sure Bin Laden will be hard to find, but if anyone here thinks that anyone terrorist group or terrorist harbouring nation *cough*Afghanistan*cough* can repel the combined efforts of the US Army, US Air Force, US Navy, and the well constructed ranks of the CIA, FBI, and other 3-letter acronym facilities, you have grossly underestimated the US's power. In the cold war, if anything happened, the US and Soviets would only evenly match. With the decline of the Soviet Union, and the restrictions placed on nuclear weapons, the US could kick any country's ass right now.

Any new terrorist acts in the planning are definite to be shut down by the FBI. Any terrorist plots already in progress will not work if they have anything to do with aircraft or they have to get into the country first. Those already in the US are being hunted down right now.

All anyone could do is try a bombing raid (ha! that against the US AIR FORCE? I dont think so) or try to fire some cruise missiles from a sub (made impossible by the SOSus acoustic detection network in the atlantic)

You guys are relatively safe compared to anytime before the 11th. The Taliban and Bin Laden however. The taliban is going down REAL SOON! Bin Laden will only be hard to find.

Yes I do believe you guys should expect some re-retaliation (whatever you'd call it), but I doubt it would affect you guys that much.

<< Nuh I have scarier things to worry about, my women has PMS......crap here she comes ...gotta go! >>

Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to anger. Anger leads to suffering. <- Yoda.

I hope I got that right.

Living in fear does suck. Its unavoidable at times but Bin Laden saying that the American people would never again live in security must make most of them more defiant and realize what he is trying to do. I really don't like him.

I'm sorry, but I think you're wrong. The US government has explicitely stated that they are expect more attacks. Some officials have said they are 100% sure it will happen.

The State Department on Sunday warned of the possibility of ?strong anti-American sentiment and retaliatory actions against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world.?

?I don?t know when or where or how, but you can just about believe that there are going to be more attacks,? said Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, the senior Republican on the Intelligence Committee. ?To lull the American people to sleep ... would be a terrible thing to do.?

This from MSNBC.

Living in fear is unhelpful but overconfidence is unrealistic.

Virus, very effective as biological weapon.

Well, here's a joke to cheer you up, buddy:

AFTERLIFE

A couple made a deal that whoever died first, they would come back and
inform the other of the after life.

The woman's biggest fear was there was no heaven.

After a long life the husband was the first to go and true to his word
he made contact. "Mary... Mary.... "

"Is that you Fred?" she asked the voice.

"Yes." said Fred. "I have come back like we agreed."

"Well," asked the anxious widow. "What is it like?"

"Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex, I have breakfast, I have
sex, I bathe in the sun, then I have sex twice. I have lunch, then sex pretty much all afternoon. Then supper, then sex 'till late at night, sleep, then start all over again."

"Oh Fred, you surely must be in heaven."

"Hell no, Mary. I'm a rabbit in Kansas."

Have a nice day.

I'm more afraid of showing up for a blind date and finding out that it's Lorena Bobbit more than any of those things mentioned above. It could happen. I think she might still live in the DC metro area.

Hopefully that is the case, but reading the link describing anthrax below -

<< Anthrax, especially in pseudospores, proved to be too persistent. In the west, its principal test site was the island of Gruinard. A single mass exposure was made there in 1943, amounting to a pseudospore infestation that simulated a battlefield concentration. As of the late 1980s Gruinard island is still too heavily infested with the pseudospores to allow humans on it. This is in spite of being firebombed and burned over at least once. >>

So I'm not sure...?

The best revenge is living well.

Go buy a new car if you can afford it, take your vacation, buy a new MB/CPU, run up your credit card debit (might skip the last one).

ObL's goal is to make us feel unsafe & shake our economy to the ground. I haven't seen any terrorism in TX, don't think I'll see any (it was a good excuse to slip a new gun purchase past my wife though)

I suspect that since congress got so thouroughly freaked out by the direct & continuing threat to our nation's capital, that they'll start to allow the NSA & CIA to quit being warm & fuzzy (we were giving tours through CIA HQ for goddssake). It's not something I really like, but we need to get back in the spy business, not the orbiting camera business....

I know about how you feel about being scared. Now, I live in Finland, so I'm pretty much safe- But I have to fly to UK in few weeks time. Now, I'm not scared, but I am concerned. But as for my girlfriend... She's really freaked out! She don't want me to go. And to be honest, I don't care much for that trip, but I have to do it.
