In organic chemistry, courtesy of UCLA. Also, uclalabrat is now columbialabrat. I won change my handle as second accounts are frowned upon
I'd tell you, but it wouldn't make any sense. Ah fuckit. Copper mediated coupling of vinyl boronate esters with allylic and aliphatic alcohols, and the synthesis of fdg-bapta-am
When you say, mediated, do you mean as in a catalyst function?I'd tell you, but it wouldn't make any sense. Ah fuckit. Copper mediated coupling of vinyl boronate esters with allylic and aliphatic alcohols, and the synthesis of fdg-bapta-am
cool! how long did it take? I'm looking into chem grad school myself but I have no real idea what I want to do. orgo is a possibility, I'm not a big fan of physical or inorganic.

Background: Copper-Mediated Coupling
Reactions
It all started in 1901 when Ullmann reported
that “Erhitzt man o-Bromnitrobenzol mit fein vertheiltem
Dinitrobiphenyl erwies.”
That be the one. Well, one of two. The FDG-BAPTA-AM thing didn't quite work out...at least not yet. Degree took 5 years from start to finish, although I've been a full time student with no breaks since '98.It looks like Dr. Shade's paper comes up when you Google "Copper mediated coupling of vinyl boronate esters".
Seriously. That was just painful.Congrats man . No more TA'ing that chem 30 series (especially the labs) now... that alone should be a relief.
Quite a chunk. More than I wanted, but being married during grad school meant taking out more loans than I would have liked. Overall, considering I've been in school for twelve years, my debt is under $100K, so it's probably not too bad.so, how much in the hole are you?
Fluorescein-di-galactose.....blah blah blahI had to look that up...
I now see why your shortened it
Fluoro-2-Deoxyglucose? (there are a lot of FDG's)
1,2-Bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid tetrakis(acetoxymethyl ester)
Well, it kinda is...it goes from Cu (II) to Cu (III) then to Cu (I), but we think oxygen oxidizes Cu (I) --> Cu (II). We've been able to make it catalytic, but yields are lower and copper is cheap, so it makes more sense to use a stoichiometric amount (actually, usually 2-3 equivalents)No the copper is undergoing a reaction and is not regenerated... therefore it is not a catalyst.
Granted there are some catalytic copper reactions -

Nope. Best catalyst for that is red phosphorous...in the form of a matchwould that be a good catalyst for the detonation of ch4 from flatus?

Nice work getting at least half of it right though...I think I may have to fade away into ATOT obscurity after this, it always amazes me how resourceful you bastards are

Ugh. No thanks. I'm ready for a 9-5. The prospect of working for a law firm, 60 hours a week at least, trying to make "partner" (which is just like trying to get tenure) is not something I'm in to. That, and I detest writing. Reading I enjoy, but I fucking HATE writing. My thesis was like pulling teeth. I could get good at it if I had to, but the whole time thing is a deal breaker. My cousin is going that route, and it's not the lifestyle for me.Congrats. Now go to law school, pass the patent and a state bar, and make a small (possuibly large) fortune working for Pharma companies.
(And PM me when your ready to do that. I have tons of contacts in that field).
