Seasons just around the corner, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

Can't wait for the boating season.

I really like those jet skis; but I wonder if owning one is worth it compared to simply renting.

And all of them are a complete and utter disaster for the ecosystem whose riders claim to enjoy "playing" in.

Ah yes your universal assumption that all PWC riders are irresponsible. Go preach your ignorance somewhere else.

I remember that day. The bug is creeping up slowly.

Depends on how often you ride. Renting for an entire weekend, every weekend is very expensive. You'd be able to buy one after a month.

Maintenance isn't terrible, and no repairs to speak of yet....out of warranty repairs anyways. The Black and Yellow one had the supercharger replaced after what, 60 hours?

I understand that they unnecessarily use gasoline and they have motors, but these are problems with boats too, but even more so.

Is there something particularly pernicious about these?

So I can count on minimal maintenance for some time. Is there a good age for used ones, or is new better?

Well, newer is better. Usually will have less hours and more fun options. I would look at 4 stroke as the engines go longer (600+ hours) before requiring rebuild. 2 strokes are generally half that.

For the most part, you will have trouble free riding. If you plan on going supercharged, know what you are getting into as maintenance may be more frequent, and break downs as well. You just have to know what to look for before each ride.

Maybe Rgun will let me try is beast this year.

A supercharger rebuild every 50-60 hours is pretty normal from what I hear. That said, most people put ~30 hours a year on a PWC, so you could count on a rebuild every two years or so. The supercharged Yamaha's supposedly have a longer time between supercharger rebuilds, but I haven't seen any data to support that claim.

Also - based on experience I can say that there really is no need for a supercharged PWC. I had a Yamaha Waverunner SHO a few years ago. It wasn't supercharged but provided 180HP and could go from 0 to 60 in ~3.5 seconds. 60 MPH on the water is scary fast.

why not a Bay Liner?

Because Bayliner's are quite low on the build quality scale, whereas Cobalt's are quite high. The two brands build boats that look similar, but are almost completely different.
