I was thinking of this cooler which is under $40 shipped! I can also use it for my future upgrades which is part of my cost consideration. If I were to use it for this cpu only and then toss it, I would probably get something less expensive. If I spread the cost out over 3 cpus then it makes more sense financially speaking.

That is the one I'm refering to. Get a bolt thru kit with it and you won't have to deal with the stupid push pins.

Kind of strange to have pushpins on what looks to be a nice Hs. As I too, can't stand them.

I always buy nice HSF's and they tend to last through 2-3 builds. And do get a bolt through kit if you get the one linked. This is a nice sink but once you add in the kit its in the same range as the Tuniq w/fan

I'm not sure I would add the kit. I had no trouble installing my current stock hsf with the push pins. I am considering the Tuniq as well. I know that would last me through a couple more upgrades for sure. I believe the Tuniq is heavier though and warping the mb really scares me.

Its here! I am just waiting for my new cooler before I give it a go! I don't want to install the stock hsf and then swap it out... too much work. I will keep you posted. I'm excited!

Ok, we'll wait for your overclocking experience. Let's see if this is an overclocking wonder chip after all.

Just a note: you may not be able to reuse that cooler on Nehalem (due out late this year or so) as it will be a completely different socket. There may be an adapter kit released but no guarantee of this happening.

My chip is coming today. I'm just going to use the stock HSF (for now at least) and see what I can do. I'd like to see what I can get without increasing the voltage. First i'll monitor the default temps, then I plan to simply increase the FSB to 333 and not do anything else. Hopefully it will stay cool and that will bump me to over 3 ghz.

I'm stopping right there.

Are you stopping there by choice or is that the furthest you can push it? Very nice oc btw!

Stopping there because I don't like higher voltage. And I know that anything beyond 3.8GHz offers really little performance boost. The chio can obviously go further, up to 420 x 9.5 (4GHz) and beyond, but I'm stopping anyway, since I love 3.8GHz at standard 1600MHz.

My cooler arrives tomorrow! Hopefully I get get a sampling before I leave for Vegas on Wednesday.

This looks like it may be that "value cpu" that will offer ridiculous performance when overclocked, yet still cost less than $140.

Like I said in another thread, I think the E7200 is going to be the new Celeron 300A. I'm glad I've already got mine. Now I just need a motherboard for it.

How does the ASUS SILENT KNIGHT compare to any of these? i mean it looks pretty decent and im considering getting that as i dunno if its possible to organise AC Freezer here, and this is the next best thing, or that Xigmatech looks pretty decent but dunno if i can get a hold of that anywhere, and taking into account the price difference i would say the Asus Silent Knight is a competitor

I've had my e7200 for a few days now, and it's been great. I changed the FSB to 333, and am now at 3.16Ghz. 30-33C with the stock cooler, about 55 on full load (according to real temp, core temp shows 10 degrees hotter).

One problem I have run into, I will notice while i'm doing something that my temperatures suddenly skyrocket. Frantically I will look at my fan and notice that it has completely stopped spinning! I have no idea what is causing this, and it has scared the crap at me. In the BIOS i changed the "Smart CPU fan" controller off, so it now always spins at full speed, and my temperature has dropped to about 28C at idle. The fan is so quiet that I can't hear it whether it's off or spinning at full speed. It's been running like this for 2 days now, so hopefully that fixed the problem of my CPU fan stopping.
