A few moons ago, i went to starbucks. one hand was my drink. other hand was my pastry. plus i was carrying a bookbag.

to unlock my car, i needed my keys. well, both hands were full of starbucks products. i put my drink on top of my car. got keys, and opened door. then took off backpack and put it in the car. then got in car, and started it. i completely forgot my drink. some kind person stopped me and pointed to my drink.

yesterday, as i was approaching starbucks, i noticed someone put his drink on the top of his car. then got into his car and started driving away. i flagged him down, and reminded him of his drink.

if it werent for my blunder a few months ago, i wouldnt have noticed other people putting drinks on top of their car. i would just goto my destination. now i do a quick scan of the top of cars in parking lots when i'm at fast food places.

If you have paid it forward, what's your story?

edit:
changed: payed = paid

That's your idea of paying it forward? I always thought things like that came under the category of being a real live human.

I'll pay it forward by informing you that it is spelled paid.

Me too. But paying it forward is paying it forward, not doing the same thing somebody who DID pay it forward already did for you.

instead of paying back the person that does something nice to you, you "pay it forward" by doing something nice to the next person you're able to help out.

if i can help someone, i usually will, regardless of whether or not somebody has helped me with a similar problem in the past. /shrug

Same here. And how do you forget your coffee on top of your car? If you go into a starbux would it not likely follow that you leave with some type of beverage?

You have to pay it forward three times to be considered. Those are the rules.

Reminds me of the very kind people who would inform me of my broken tail light. I had it for about a year and heard about it on maybe four different occasions, of course I always acted very surprised so they would think they'd made a difference.

I don't pay that forward because I know the guy with the broken tail light knows he has a broken tail light.

Maybe you should fix your damn taillight.
Bulbs cost all of $2 or so.

I always tell people if they have a light out. I figure it's better than a cop telling them, and unless you get a friend to check for you, how are you supposed to know?

one day a guy cut me off, flipped me off, and started yelling obsceneties at me, it was promptly paid forward.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated it and thought "God bless those kind people." I just never got around to it, one of those things that you forget for a few weeks, then a couple of months, and then it is the last thing on your mind and never gets done.

And you're a very rare breed, because I very rarely heard about it.

Sorry to sound abrasive, that was just the first thought that came to mind.

FWIW, I grew up in the boonies where you waved at passing cars whether you knew the driver or not.

I was at a mall, saw someone drive away with a bag on their roof. Waited for it to fall. Had half my christmas gifts covered ( <3 Nordstroms)...came back the next day score #2.

Like taking candy from a baby.

Then the nurse came in and told me it was time for my meds.

a long time ago my friends and i duct taped a 44oz. on top of the car. You get some pretty funny reactions from people trying to tell you about it, then realizing it's stuck up there.
