I picked up a metal detector today at the pawn shop, found a kid ring

That ring looks nice. As in, well crafted if the camera is doing it justice. I think I would take it to a jeweler for appraisal before considering any offers.

the confusing thing to me is that the ring looks like junk in the first pic, but the details in the second pic look a lot more promising. i would err on the side of caution and bring it to someone local. they're not going to charge you just to say 'this is junk' (assuming they're not thieves). if it is gold, they can at least tell you what the weight is worth.

Id take it to a jeweler before selling it. I once found a watch on my driveway, i was going to fleabay it for $20 but it turned out to be some rare ass edition casio and sold for a couple hundred.

Not really, but I suspect Made in Hong Kong if it's from the mid 60s - early 70s, or the brand name of a novelty company from New York or New Jersey if a bit earlier :^D

Alternatively, it could be marked with gold content, or a hallmark from a fine jewelry company, but to my untrained eye, I don't think so.

I am so excited yet afraid that my two days of owning a md and finding two pieces of jewelry is going to set me up for major disappointment, so I keep reminding myself I have gotten very lucky. I just found this and ran in to post pics, this and the other ring came from my front yard. I have not even washed it off yet so pardon the dirt. I also found some modern coins and some small piece of arched metal that looks like it has broken off something bigger.

That looks like the kind of ring someone might use to press into wax to mark a sealed envelope. Pretty cool.

a buddy of mine once was owed some money, the guy gave him a cheap metal detector as part payment, my buddy didnt want the metal detector, he wanted his cash but took the metal detector anyway with the thought to sell it to recoup his cash. my buddies gf said she wanted to try out the metal detector, within an hour she found some old coins on their property, one was a $10 gold coin, which ended up being worth $2600. they never found anything else valuable after that.
