When I quit smoking, I was spending less than $15 per week. Taxes have doubled on RYO tobacco since then, and I don't know what it costs anymore. I mostly use snus and snuff now, and smoke the occasional cigarette. I got a gift of tobacco a few years ago, and I use that when I feel like a cigarette.

It is almost two years since I quit a 17 year chewing tobacco habit. Watching my father die of lung cancer sort of sped along my decision to quit.

I did it cold turkey, relying on a quitters forum to keep me motivated. Still frequent it to this day to keep me honest. While my cravings have almost disappeared, they do sometimes happen at the oddest moments.

A lot of smokers quit, only to start up again even years later after a bout with stressful events. Those who detox their lungs successfully, such as the program <removed> offers, are much less likely to have a smoking relapse.

Sitting at the hospital waiting for my Dad to pass. 50+ years of smoking, emphysema. CO2 levels 145mEq/L (? Got that # from my sister). They're not even monitoring his vitals anymore.

If you smoke, do what you can to stop.

I'm coming up on 4 years. Just remember a couple things.

You're only 1 puff away from being an addict again. Don't take that puff.
Smoking does not relieve stress. That's a lie you've been telling yourself for however long now.
You have a nicotine addiction not a smoking addiction. e-cigs, chew, etc are not an option.
It only gets better.

I feel amazing now that I don't smoke. I dropped a 17 year addiction and never looked back. Also, if you are a drinker, you might want to hold off on that for a while.

Looking into quitting myself. After 25 years I'd really like to be healthier for myself, for my daughter, for my little one on the way and for my wife.

The best advice I can give to someone about quitting smoking... Just don't smoke. I know that sounds really stupid, maybe even assholish but it really is that simple. You're going to be a dick for a few weeks, everything is going to suck for a while, but eventually all that just disappears. Also pick up the book "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking". It really helped me realize all the BS I'd been lying to myself about smoking.

Never smoked, but I picked up E-Cigs a few months ago, thinking about moving to real smokes. I work at a store that sells cigs, and I have about 8 regulars who didn't start smoking until they were in the mid 30's to 40's. Kind of interesting because the typical smoker started in high school. I just turned 39.

That's just about the worst idea a person can have.

It's relaxing, I like going to the Hookah place around the way, but it ends up costing a lot. Plus you can't go for a small amount. I mean, I could but it'd end up costing me $15 regardless. I smoke I guess what equals to about 1 cigarette a day. I did buy a really nice Hookah setup, but it's time involved and way too much work for anything but a long session

Been smoking less and less each day, going to stop completely this week. I know I'll be a dick and grumpy but it is bullshit wasting all this money on shit that will kill me. Plus more money for my computer addiction when I quit!

Still not smoking .. been 6 months now. I don't get cravings anymore. One thing that helps is that I've pretty much stopped drinking socially (too busy studying for the CPA). Another thing that helps is the fact that I bought a new car in August and I want to keep that squeaky clean.. LOL.. oh yeah, my health too

I'm glad I at least switched to electric cigs. Cut my nicotine level down to 12mg from 24mg. Only vape when I'm home, no more smoke breaks at work. Couple puffs a day and I'm good. I feel so much better as it's been 2 years since I touched a cigarette. I'm hoping to slowly ween the nic level down to 6mg then 0 and hopefully then just reduce the habit all together.

Edit: just saw the post of the dude who picked up e cigs for no reason. Why?? I'm all for smokers going the e cig route, but to pick one up for no reason well you might as well just picked up an analog. If you have never smoked don't even bother at all. Hookah is different and 0mg nicotine juice is the same but to just pick up a nicotine habit that some of us have been trying to get rid of for years is just dumb.

Good for you. I'm over 6 months without a "regular" cigarette...only the e-cig. I KNOW I'm still a nicotine addict...but this is still better than smoking. (even if only slightly better)

No, it's a LOT better, since your not getting your nicotine by burning a plant and inhaling it your bypassing the carcinogens completely.

Yup, that was the mistake I made the last time I quit, after 4 months without a cig I had a huge T-bone and some crab legs for my birthday, I also bummed a smoke from a neighbor, I felt WTF, if I can go 4 months without a single smoke one after a big meal won't make me addicted again..WRONG, within 3 weeks I was back full-time, stupidest thing I've ever done. I'm trying to gradually switch to the e-cigs now, I've cut back to about 8-10 analog cigs /day, my biggest fear at this time is the FDA coming in and stopping the sales of E-cigs, their in the process of evaluating how they are going to regulate them now..

Yeah that's one thing they want to do for the same reason the guy who never smoked went and picked one up. No one wants their teen or kids just to get an e cig because it's safer. It will form the same habit.

I have some e cig mods that I use and I can tell you the amount of juices you can get are awesome. Even nic free juices with menthol really help me. Just moderate it, I find it a lot easier with an ecig. No smell, and if you keep lowering the nic level, you will notice you can go hours and days without it until one day you eventually forget.

Plenty of times I leave my ecig at home, and I don't even realize that I haven't had any craving.

the FDA can kiss my ass. they dont do shit about cigarettes that hve like 4000 toxic chemicals but are just itching to bring the hammer down on e-cigs that have none. hell you can get juice that has no nicotine and nicotine does not cause cancer.

so what is it? no tax money from tobacco sales? bit tobacco leaning on them for lost sales?
