I just knew those were not "family names" like my wife claimed.

I don't want you confusing people that these two are even in the same league, it is physically impossible to get pregnant with Mirena while Nuvaring is just stupid and works about as well as cumming on her face, in 999 times out of a 1000 it will work, but what if that one time is the first time, as othes have testified to?

I know you were jokiing, but please don't put them on the same scale, even IF you get pregnant with the Mirena, you will not even notice it, the egg can't implant, so it will be rinsed out, if you actually have a period while using it, that is why.

It's the greatest thing since ... since... well SINCE!

Um, OK.

Before, I had an average sex drive, ate like a normal 20 year old woman, and while I have been diagnosed with depression, I dont need to take pills for it or anything because it doesnt usually bother me too much.

Now that Im taking YAZ, my moodswings are insane! I am sure that the YAZ is causing all of this. Is it normal? Should I continue YAZ and wait it out? What should I do? Ive taken birth control before (ortho tricyclen) and I didnt do so well with it either. Is it me?

I am making my wife switch birth control tonight.

Yeah me too,

Because it helps some womens periods become more predictable and lighter, plus there is no fumbling around with condoms.

I see it better used in a relationship where you dont want a/more kids but it wouldnt be the end of the world if you did.

My wife takes it and we have a child and arent wanting another any time really soon, but if it happens it happens.

Worst linking job ever.

And LOL at everyone getting upset at Agentbolt. Especially alkemyst and JoS.

naz, I dated a girl for a few months last summer who was on Yaz. I think she may have been depressed, but we never talked about it and I don't know of any other meds she may have been on. Her sex drive was insane though. And when I broke it off, she took it really, really hard. She later told me that the pill's effect on her moods was a big part of that.

You start messing with hormones and you never know what can happen. Had to go through three more before we found one that didn't make her crazy for two weeks a month.

Have you tried the shot (can't remember the name) or the sticks that sit under your skin? (can't remember that one either...)

I've had GF's who used those and they managed to stay pretty even. Of course it could have just been them... BC is such a case by case basis.

Deproprovera is the name of the shot, but it causes massive weight gain and the sex drive goes down the tube

That and condoms are the SUCK once you've experienced it without them. It's like having Salisbury steak under the impression that it's steak your whole life, then suddenly having a real steak. You don't want to go back to Salisbury steak.

I have given up on all forms of the birth control pill or shot. Every single one of them makes me act like a lunatic who doesn't want to have sex. IMO, there is no point in paying for something to prevent pregnancy when a side effect is almost no sex drive.

*****For the record, most doctors you see will basically pick a drug off the list. All have been FDA approved and there's no magic in the dosage because all come in pre-loaded packs with 1 pill a day. Often, you can get Ortho-Lo via your doctor for free (tons of samples) simply because no one else uses it. Everyone insists that the other ones work better. It may be the case, but I suggest it has more to do with marketing if you compare the drug facts and case studies.

Having said all that,

The trick is to find a pill that works for you and speaking with a specialist will at least give you their knowledge of what has worked for other patients. Birth Control isn't natural simply because you're tricking your body by taking hormones. You do have a lot of options, and there are other methods you might want to consider.

About Yaz. How long have you been on it? My advice if you've only been on it a short while (maybe 1-3 cycles), don't give up on it yet. Stick it out and see how your body adjusts. Your body goes through drastic changes as you take supplements like that and it adjusts how much estrogen it creates as a result. I suggest you see if things improve in another month or two. Yaz affects everyone a little differently, but you might see side effects in the first few months that will stablize. It's not uncommon to have bleeding in between periods on the stuff as well at first.....

Good luck. I hope your body either adjusts to Yaz or you find one that works for you. Just remember...you need to give it 3-6 months and I don't recommend switching every month. You might end up on something that only works initially and end up in the same situation on another drug.

I have had the Mirena IUD for two years now. A bit painful for the first couple of weeks (cramps), but no problems since then. I highly recommend it. Convinced my sister to give it a try last year, and she loves it too. Neither of us have had children. BC pills and the patch had too many side effects for me.

Thanks for posting that. I nearly forgot to all about it (kind of blocked it out). Blood clots are a serious risk of birth control. It's important to know the warning signs and take it seriously.

A good friend of mine lost his girlfriend to a blood clot in 2004. She was 23 and worked as a nurse. She went to work one morning at 6am... Walked into the hospital and collapsed just inside the lobby. They weren't able to revive her. She was always fun to hang out with and a great friend.

My wife has horrible problems with every birth control we tried. One caused pain during sex, which although it made me feel like more of a man (it's going too deep, it hurts) was not all that fun for her. Another took away her sex drive. Another made her a emotional wreck (sure everything was fine until she got a pimple and started crying about how she was ugly and didn't want anyone to see her.)

Finally, I told her to get off them. I'd rather use condoms then deal with that shit. Our sex life has been better, and our actual life has been better.

My problem is that doctors play with the hormone levels in a woman without any tests. They just give out birth control, screw with your body and if it doesn't work, well we can switch it. That doesn't seem safe. I don't like the idea of playing marco polo with the chemicals in my wifes body just so we don't have to use condoms.

http://www.mirena-us.com/index.jsp

Hormones only act in the uterus, no blod clots, no mood swings, no periods, no nothing.

And they give you a high dose of codeine so the woman will be sailing all day long.

It doesn't affect your endocrine hormones WHAT SO EVER, why women looking for contraceptives don't just get this one i don't know, perhaps they like being all hormony and moody or something?

I don't know, seems scary to me

Been there, done that... shes kind of an idiot. She said its normal and should go away and blahblahblah...

Just wondering on other opinions. The moodiness has gone down a little but I still feel kind of crazy at some times...
