I recently started taking YAZ birth control a little over a month ago.?

Since Ive been on it, my sex drive has increased A LOT, my appetite has increased A LOT, and my depression has increased A LOT. Before, I had an average sex drive, ate like a normal 20 year old woman, and while I have been diagnosed with depression, I dont need to take pills for it or anything because it doesnt usually bother me too much.

Now that Im taking YAZ, my moodswings are insane! I am sure that the YAZ is causing all of this. Is it normal? Should I continue YAZ and wait it out? What should I do? Ive taken birth control before (ortho tricyclen) and I didnt do so well with it either. Is it me?

Keep trying different ones until you find one that you are comfortable with. I went through this with my wife and she went through 5 different brands before finally finding one that didn't mess with her too badly.

Don't play with hormone-based anything without speaking directly with a doctor! That can and does cause EVERYTHING you are talking about. Stop it immediately and then talk to a doc (an endocrinologist or gynecologist, *NOT* a GP! they are much more knowledgeable about hormones and their effects) about the whole situation, make sure to mention the effects this current one is having on you!

I can't recall, but you should just talk to your doctor about it and he can keep giving you new ones until you find one you are happy with, that's what we did.

It sounds like you need a low dose BCP like Orthro-Lo or Loestrin-24. Some women cannot take so much estrogen in their system.

WEll actually Yaz has .35% estrogen in it, so it REALLY is low dose. Ive tried the ortho tri low dose stuff and it made me a little manic.

Hormones drugs will F' with your shit. Its not surprising it causes all kinds of side-effects. Each drug will have different effects on different girls.

The real concern you should have is why you decided to post this question on a geek-computer forum with a population of about exactly 7 girls? That's something to be concerned with!

I urge you again do not play with hormone based products like this without having a serious talk with a gynocoligist or endocrinologist! I have a lot of expertise in this area since I have had to take replacement hormones from an imbalance I have had since birth from a birth defect. playing with hormones without proper knowledge is playing with dynamite! In some cases, it can and will kill you even taking those in normal birth control pills. talk to an expert before taking another hormone based product, as the side effects you listed may only be the surface ones. One of the big dangers of them is hepatic functionality loss also known as liver failure. This is an incredibly serious thing here, do not take it lightly!

Well for gods sake be careful then. Again, went through a similar thing with the wife, but the mania was caused by an anti-depressant, not birth control. It was very bad news though.

Make sure you go to your doctor before doing anything.

Drugs affect people differently because we all have different metabolism and hormone levels. It sounds like you're hypersensitive to Ethinyl Estradiol which is in both Ortho Tri-Cyclen and YAZ.

If you don't like the side effects then yes, you should look into something right for you. You might try to find a lower dose through a patch like Othro Evra or just ditch hormone therapy altogether and try spermicidal gel and condoms. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist on what might work better.

Tried tha patch, it failed and has also been proven to actually be harmful to women. I dont know if I would be comfortable with the spermicidal gel... and other ideas?

Yeah Im going to. Im not really worried about being depressed though because I would never harm myself or anybody around me. Im more concerned because it turns me into a crazy person and sometimes I flip out on my boyfriend for no reason... which he understands but still... Its really irritating for me.

You'd be surprised how many people think they can't become that depressed taking hormones, and something snaps, and they take their own lives. A friend of mine was in a situation eerily similar to yours, and she is no longer here. I miss her friendship dearly.
