I just got a checking account, and I have a savings account but currently no job. Is there any card that I would be able to get? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Without a job, probably not.

You might be able to get something with like a $300 limit and infinite interest rates.

You *might* be able to get a card with a VERY small limit, but without a job even that's a crapshoot. You can however easily get a secured card, those are available to anyone. You simply deposit X dollars into an escrow account as collateral. If you deposit $500 you get a card with a $500 limit, deposit $1000 you get $1000 limit. You get the deposit back when you cancel the card providing you don't owe any money on it. It's a way to build credit. Use a secured card for a year, don't miss any payments and you'll have no trouble getting a real card.

Good luck. I tried to get a Chase card that was suppose to be for students and they rejected me. The only way I got a credit card was through my parents bank with them cosigning. It has a $500 limit too

Get a job, then you win! Don't forget to apply for a card that asks for "household income" so you can have your parent's salary help your chances, rate, and credit limit.

I just turned 19 and have around $7500 of credit line on 2 rewards cards, and I didn't even lie.

get a debit card until you get a job, then get a credit card, and make damn sure you keep it paid off. for the love of god, please keep it paid off.

IIRC my first credit card had a $3k limit. I signed up for it to get the free T-shirt. They approved me, I don't know why, and over the years kept raising my credit limit...right now it's at $10k on that card. Of course, now I'm getting a card with benefits, so...

when i turned 18, i got a capital one card with a 500 dollar credit limit. i made sure to use it at least once a month and pay it off in full. that credit history sure helped when i bought a condo.

i would go after low tier/high interest rate cards like providian or capital one. sure the rates suck but if you're paying it off full every month, it doesnt really matter.

if you cant get that, go secured... but you should be able to get an unsecured card as a blank slate.

No... no you don't

Wrong-o. Yes, yes you do. It's never too early to start building a credit rating and to have one on hand for emergencies. You never know when you're going to have to buy a set of tires when 1000 miles from home.

Credit cards are not evil, they're not expensive and they're not dangerous if the person holding them has a shred of a single brain cell. The only people who get in trouble with credit cards are living proof that Darwin was right. Some are just too stupid to survive.

My credit score was 700 when I turned 18 and one of my friend's was 800. Needless to say I was able to get a few credit cards with decent limits. Of course I would pay the balance off in full when it was due each month. Check your score...if your parent's had you listed on one of their cards it may show up as you being a joint account holder which is a plus.

True!

I am not even sure you can get one without a source of income.
Good luck!

do yourself a favor, and if you get a credit card don't load it up. Keep it paid off so you don't end up in so much debt like so many americans
