If you don't like their names or think they're pretentious, then why bother even going?

Because all the other beatniks/beatnik coffee houses won't accept them if they don't?

I brew my own and bring a 1L Thermos to work.

As for the name of what they call a large or whatever... I don't care as long as the coffee is good.

fixed and QFT. that place is for nancy boys.

Way to cut off your nose to spite your face. Boycotting Starbuck's only hurts yourself. If you're a true coffee lover, you're just missing out on excellent coffee. Everywhere else just sells coffee-flavored water. Blech.

Do people who boycott Starbuck's and talk about it = people who don't watch TV and talk about it?
You should take the internet more seriously.

edit: nancy boy.

It does have a convenience factor, there are almost 200 of the things within 5 miles of me. Personally, I just get regular drip coffee so it isn't that much.

Someone let me know when the hating on Starbuck's bandwagon finally grinds to a halt.

Probably the same time the hating bandwagons halt for Walmart, McDonalds, Cheverolet and Intel.

Normally when you do a play on words, it has to at least resemble the original word, rhyme, or be funny. Did you make up Fourbucks? I have never seen that before, and probably for good reason. The only similarity that Four and Star share is the letter R.

Maybe it has to do with the price of their coffee.

oh for christ's sake, this entire board has a stick shoved way up its ass.

Online retail sales from Nov. 1 through Friday were up 25% over 2005, says Internet market research firm ComScore Networks.
ComScore says last Wednesday was likely the biggest online shopping day of the year and, with nearly $670 million in sales, topped last year's No. 1 day by over $100 million. In fact, sales on 12 days this year have surpassed $600 million.

Last year's single biggest day for Web sales was Dec. 11, when consumers spent $556 million online.

"It's almost like we're seeing a surging as we come down to the deadline day somewhere around (today) when free shipping with guaranteed delivery ends," says ComScore chairman Gian Fulgoni.

"We keep seeing strong growth," says Scott Silverman, executive director of the National Retail Federation (NRF) online division, shop.org. "It's newsworthy when it continues, because each year you're growing off a bigger base."

Retail consulting firm Kurt Salmon Associates polled 1,202 consumers between Nov. 25 and Dec. 5 and found most people planned to spend the same amount as in 2005, but 36% were planning to shop more online.

"We're breaking records in online shopping," says Kurt Salmon interactive strategies expert Chad Doiron. "That's the big winner."

Through Dec. 3, ComScore says, the number of online buyers was up 17% over a year ago, and the average amount spent increased 7%. Kurt Peters, editor in chief of Internet Retailer, says the growth is likely coming from more people shopping online as well as from experienced online shoppers increasing how much they spend. Peters says new buyers spend less than experienced buyers.

The good news for online retailers comes with a warning. Because consumers are trying out many different websites, they get frustrated quickly with the less satisfying ones, Peters says. Consumers' rising expectations usually outstrip websites' abilities, he says.

Doiron says online shoppers will put up with slow or hard-to-use websites this time of year. But they won't forgive being told something is in stock when it's not: "That's when you've lost a customer."

Some of the biggest retailers aren't going to let shipping deadlines steer consumers away from their websites. Starting today, the NRF's cybermonday.com website will be promoting a "buy online, pick up in-store" option for the holidays. Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears and CompUSA are among retailers offering the service.

"Picking up items in a store will be a good option for consumers who don't want to wander around looking for a particular size or color," NRF spokeswoman Ellen Davis says.

Cliffs: Internet. Serious business.

i hate Starbucks because they are expensive. there are 3 places around me where i can get great coffee for cheaper. to me $4 a cup is not worth it.

the best coffee i ever had was a little resturant in a little town on my way to work.for $2 i could fill up anything i brought in. they had a few diffrent flavors. yumm.

However, a coffee at Starbuck's is $1.55. Not $4. If you want a specialty drink, it's $4. The coffee you're getting for $2 is just coffee. Even if it's hazelnut or french vanilla, it's just coffee. Not a latte or mocha, made with steamed milk in a fancy machine. Just brewed coffee. There's a difference.

i don't like using non-conventional size names either. i don't like it when places use relative size names, but in fact are not relative. like at subway, there are two cups, but are sized "medium" and "large". how can a medium exist without a "regular" or "small" cup? they should just use regular and large, or small and large.

I was going to post a new thread but didn't want the dreaded repost police to come after me.

This used to drive me crazy until I finally succumbed and now I order tall or grande, deep down inside I still prefer small, medium, and large. Nope I never order vente or whatever it's called.

I make coffee at home. They have this thing now called a 'coffee maker' that literally just makes you coffee for a fraction of the price of a shop. Must be new, because they're not popular.

But jokes aside, starbucks names for everything are beyond stupid. I don't go there because of it.

hipster.

dunkin donuts has always been the worst coffee ive ever tasted. starbucks is almost as bad. i prefer home brewed, but im too lazy to do that, so i deal with circle k cinnamon coffee. turns out its a pretty good cup. dutch bros is another fave of mine, mainly for the atmosphere and such, but their coffee tastes like actual coffee so its good. overpriced, but good.

and ive never catered to the size name change thing. when i used to go to the starbux and they repeated large in whatever starbuxese they use, i would answer with "thats the large one, right?" until they would give up and say it in ounces.

Starbucks went up to $1.95 for a 12oz cup of coffee around here.

The size renaming is just a promotional and branding thing. You tell your barista (more branding) that you want a small cup, and that's what you get. Haven't tried saying large, cause that much coffee would leave me shaking.

I get corrected every time I go to Penn Station and order a small fountain drink. "Our smallest one is medium"

Damn that would irk me. They should teach basic English and grammar during the new employee orientation.

I don't go to Starbucks much, but when I do, I get a "large" coffee.
