This is what I came up why to return the Iphone and go back to my Blackberry Pearl.

The iPhone is what I call technology porn. It is super hot, you just want it, lust for it, and want to play with it. But it only gives you short term satisfaction, you don?t get a relationship with it and it will let you down. Unlike with my BlackBerry Pearl its cute, sweet and reliable. I know that I can count on it when I needed. It?s not flashy and hot but you can build a good relationship with it.

My relationship with my iphone is pretty good. My last relationship was better but that's probably because women > phones.

Just curious, what features did you switch back for?

I like my blackberry Push email. I use Gmail which my primary email for all my emails address. They get auto forward to one account.
The iPhone would not automatically get new email unless i open the email application. The iphone also has no viewable way to know if you got email if the screen is off. My Blackberry will either beep a sound or vibrate and always has a red blinking light when new email is available.

iphone was also bulkier than expected, didn't work well with bluetooth device. Didnt work well with my Primary Vista computer for syncing. Didn't want to sync pictures because they were too large. The sound levels also for the phone were extremely low. On the first day every call i got i had to put on speaker phone because i could not hear anything when i put the phone to my ear and people could not hear me.

Blackberry Pearl is cute and reliable? Wow. I hated mine...thought THAT was all techno porn. I immediately regretted selling my Treo 650 after I bought that.

Wow, the iPhone was bulkier than you expected? I just played with it the other day and not only was it as small as my Motorola Q, but it was thinner by a hair than my wife's Razr. I can't imagine what you think non-bulky is, lol. I can understand the rest of the stuff though. I'm still wondering why Apple didn't go in for the kill in the Blackberry/Treo market - all that had to do was add a few software features to make us happy - Bluetooth tethering/GPS/A2DP support, multiple inboxes with various notification options, etc. They are like this close to stealing the market and instead it's a toy for consumers. Oh well, glad I'm a consumer too

The iPhone will auto check for new mail and tell you that you have mail, you just have to set that option in your mail settings. It's turned off by default to save battery.

Also, I would just like to say I have an iPhone and it's near-perfect. Some minor flaws (headphone jack being the biggest) but I have had no real issues. The voices of dissent are always louder than the voices of happiness so I just wanted to be a voice of happiness. It's slim, light yet solid, beautiful, great ipod, solid phone, safari works well, edge not that slow, typing is pretty easy, etc. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Another happy iPhone owner here as well! I agree with you, the phone is not perfect for sure, but does a lot of things extremely well, plus the package is just super slick. My biggest gripe is the lack of any ability to copy/cut/paste text, and the lack of an ability to send the same text message to multiple recipients in a single swoop. Other than those two problems, the iPhone is amazing.

i love my pearl. actually, i like it a little less now that it seems to be the 'hollywood standard' and is appearing everywhere even in movies, but its absolutely easy to use and unbreakable. i have dropped mine on frozen concrete, hit it so hard that chunks of plastic have fallen off and generally abuse the hell out of it, and its still working like new. doesnt look new though i know it wont break and it will always be there for me. the iphone looks nice but has to prove itself first.

I returned my iPhone mainly because of reception issues with AT&T. I couldn't get any calls at work, but at home the reception was great.

After playing with it for 3 days I thought that it was an excellent product but that it crashed a lot (though much more gracefully versus Palm OS). Also, I thought that Google Maps would have been awesome in landscape mode. Several other small things (copy/paste, a2dp, blah blah) would be nice.

I think that the email app is terrible in its current state, though I am not reliant on email at all. The mail management is very tedious since you can only deal with 1 email at a time.

I'll def. think about buying rev 2 or possible rev 1 with a couple software patches but I really couldn't justify leaving my Sprint SERO contract early for the iPhone, especially considering the phone service (which isn't apples fault) was subpar.

The crashing is something some users have been experiencing but not all. I hear that Apple has been great about returns. If you walk into an Apple store with your phone sayint its crashing a lot, they will give you an exchange no problem. The reception thing however of course is something that can't be fixed, and its a shame. Cell carriers are weird like that. I used to have T-Mobile but I just didn't get service in my apt (in the middle of NYC) so I had to get rid of them. AT&T service has been very good.

I've only had one iPhone crash in my first week of use. I was using the iPod and the whole thing just shut off for no reason. I turned it back on and it was fine.

Safari will crash if you go to a site that is not Safari compliant, i.e. it has less to do with the phone than Safari, for the Mac as well. There is one site I go to that crashes Safari on my MacBook all the time. It will do the same on the iPhone so I stay away.

I had a Treo 650 also before my Blackberry Pearl. Both good phones but Treo was also bulky wanted some small with lots of power and the Blackberry Pearl does it for me now.

depends on your connection. takes about 10 seconds to fully load a page on Edge, little less on Wifi.

Youtube runs pretty good.

I agree with what you're saying. I feel that after a few software updates the iPhone will an ideal device for me. Honestly, I am VERY rarely on the phone (maybe 75 minutes a month).

I just didn't feel like paying $600 + $60/month to beta test while they worked out the bugs. I also feel that several useful updates will come out around the OS X 10.5 launch (oct/nov.) so I can wait till then.
