I seem to have acquired a collection of smaller SSDs.

Wondering if anyone had a good idea of what to use them for.

I've got:
4 80GB X25-M G2 drives (one used, one 7mm used)
2 240GB Vertex Plus R2 refurb (one used, one NIB)
4 50GB Vertex 2 refurb (some used, one NIB at a friend's place)
1 90GB Vertex 2 (maybe Agility 2) (used)
4 30GB Agility (used)

I've been seeing a lot of 'Wanted' listings in FS/FT for smallish SSDs... if you aren't using them (or have plans to use them..., ) they aren't doing you any good.

Sell the Intels. Or give them to older friends and family members who have not experienced the joy of SSD.

Douse the OCZ drives with gasoline and light them on fire.

(Well, you could probably sell the 240GBs on Craigslist, but be prepared to lie through your teeth.)

Put all the SSDs in a box, and then keep writing data to them until they fail.
And inform us of the failures as each one happens...

I wouldnt trust the OCZ drives for pretty much anything. For the intel drives I would put them into 2007-2009 vintage used/ off-lease PCs and resell them. First gen i3 / wolfdale core 2 machines are very cheap but they always come with crap HDDs.

Meh... I put my old 64GB Agility3 in my HTPC as a boot drive, it works very well in that role. Because I have a backup image of the drive, if it crashes... oh, well, I get a new M500 or something and get on with life.

Send me one of the Intel drives
Could make a use of it as a boot drive on an older computer.

Well, I'm not getting rid of the Intel drives. I went out of my way to pick them up for my Q9300 rigs.

Too bad a Drobo-type machine is more expensive than it's worth! Throw the biggest/best ones in there and have one big speedy drive.

You could use the OCZ and small sized drives as Intel SRT cache (just not in maximum mode for safety!)

The 4x 80GB drives or 2x 240GB in RAID make for one big "drive". The Intel would be plenty reliable, too. (OCZ, not so much.)

Many laptop owners, like myself, would be happy for a useable 60-240GB SSD, even if it's an OCZ. Price 'em right, they'll all sell.

Well, I'm not getting rid of the Intel drives. I went out of my way to pick them up for my Q9300 rigs.

Just looked over my assortment of unused drives,

2 40 gb x25v's
2 80 gb x25m's
2 90 gb Kingston 200 V+'s
1 60 gb vertex 2
1 60 gb vertex 3 - this is a replacement for a failed vertex 2
1 120 gb M4
1 160 gb x25m

Thought I had a bunch but you have quite a few more.

Lot of $$'s paid for those drives (think the 80 gb Intel's were close to $240 when I got them) - worth the investment at the time though.

I have plans for the M4 and the x25m's, but the rest will probably never be used.

Shame about not using the X25v's, those things will probably outlive me, but the write speed is just so slow compared to other drives.

I had an unused 32GB OCZ Onyx. Last week I threw LMDE on it to play around with on my home server see if it would be a suitable OS replacement for WHS 2011.

With an extra drive or two, I'd set up VM's to try out different Linux flavors. But with 15 spare drives? Craigslist them? Though the OCZ ones won't fetch much and you said you wouldn't sell the Intels, so I have no idea.

Keep them for next year's secret Santa!
Or see if you can use them as OS-drives in single purpose PCs, such as NAS, HTPCs or mining/transcoding boxes.

I'd also pick up a pair of SSDs with 40-160GB for my server as OS drives - I'm currently running off 8GB SSDs and 80GB HDDs for /opt /var and /usr/src + /usr/portage

The good thing about having a stack of SSD's is that they don't take up much room. This post made me take stock of all the other parts I have piled up around here. CPUs are not a problem, who knows, maybe that K6-III might make a good keychain someday.

All the mainboards, graphic cards, CPU coolers, power supply, et all are starting to take over. I wonder what an Abit KT7a will fetch on eBay these days.

Or maybe it's time for a run to the recycler.

I have several smaller ones thrown in my ZFS array as spare scratch pools and (more importantly) as cache drives. All in all I have 400GB of L2ARC SSD caching that really takes the hit off my main pool for both storage and virtual machines. Without those LOG and L2ARC devices, my pool would be useless.
