killing animals isn't "cool" or something to brag about.

Do you eat meat?

So it is OK to support killing animals, as long as you dont brag about it? That somehow makes the animal's death OK? It somehow hurts the animals feelings after it dies if you post on a forum about it, as opposed to just eating its flesh after catching a bolt gun at a packing house?

The faux outrage by people is hilarious. At least the PETA people put what they say into practice (dont eat meat, wear animal products, etc). Although I think they are batshit insane, I respect them more than the people in this thread pretending shooting pests is somehow immoral.

It's a shame how many people in this thread have little to no respect for animal life, it seems to be "if its more convenient to kill them then do it" It's absurd.

Oh hey! That reminds me, any of yall been Nutria hunting? I don't take into hunting myself but I wouldn't mind putting down a good bag of those bastards. Last I heard was that Louisiana was still offering bounties on tails.

EDIT: Just checked the Louisiana wildlife page. They paid $5 a tail last year for almost half a billion tails. Heh, 42% of the participants turned in over 800 tails.

yeah. Nutria need to be blasted into irrelevance.

yes, your knowledge of Biology and sustainability when it comes to Ecosystems leaves a lot to be desired.

...not that you know anything about diverse ecosystems, living on your rain-sodden island. :\

Are you a vegetarian?

Whether someone is a meat-eater or not doesn't support 'hunting'.

For one, most meat packing is done as ethically as possible, it's highly regulated here in the US. Any stories of packers torturering animals are usually investigated and someone ends up prosecuted.

Secondly, many hunters are terrible hunters. Just like everything they do. They hop on every 'cool' trend and think they are experts.

Around here the big problem is people with assault rifles and high powered scopes going for 'long shots'. They don't care if they bring the animal down as long as they just hit it. They don't go and track it down to finish it off either (not to mention at such ranges they'd have lost it even before they get to the vicinity).

I have no problem with hunting as a whole, but most really don't end up eating their kills and waste the animal.

On the other tangent...showing animals for just the heck of it is hardly hunting or pest control. It's like when I worked for the vet and would see animals (mostly cats) riddled with BB's that the owner's had no clue about.

Most do it because of "Little Man Syndrome".

Ecosystems do not include morons who kill animals for sport/ for no good reason.

you seem to not understand that hunting is completely necessary, that eradication of invasive species introduced by human meddling--like that fat fuck British bastard that brought his precious fucking disease-bag starlings over to Central Park a century ago--is completely essential.

You haven't really differentiated this concept from your "killing all animals is bad" mantra.

now, if you could kindly bring some pals over here and start killing all of those dipshit starlings that your former countryman is responsible for, our thousands of other, more useful bird species will thank you.

What I mean is killing animals is bad unless it is completely necessary, for example if someone is in immediate danger then kill away. If however a couple of chickens might get eaten because the owner cant be arsed to put up a fense then no don't kill anything.

Coyote mauled a customer's miniature something dog. Crushed it's jaw and left it for dead. It had to be put down.

What would the peta people do? What would they do?
*wrings hands*

Well, PETA doesnt think anyone should own pets at all, so I'm guessing they'd side with the Coyote.

that's not true at all. It's spewed by ignorants and anti-PETA types.
They dont sound very pro-pet here do they.

http://www.peta.org/about/why-peta/pets.aspx

"This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. They are restricted to human homes, where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to."

In reality a large portion of their core believes pet ownership to be unethical, and their movement towards reducing the pet population thru spay and neuter is focused on an end goal of no animal ownership. You can deny it all you like, but you will still be wrong.
