Coyotes account for like 65% of all livestock deaths. That's a pretty big "pest".

Looks like all the ATOT rednecks are out in full force. We are on top of the food chain. We have millions of animals bred and slaughtered on a daily basis for our consumption. There is just no reason to hunt wildlife unless you have some psychotic need to kill something.

There is nothing wrong with hunting. While I generally am not in favor for predator hunting as it seems like a reason for some people just to shoot an animal just to shoot it, I do understand pest control. As far as hunting animals that will be harvested for food, many people do it, not because they are psychotic, but because they actually enjoy the activity and are being much less of a pussy then people who simply buy their meat in the supermarket and have someone else do the killing/processing.

"In fact, an abundant supply of resources can produce a population boom that ends up with more individuals than the environment can support. In this case, starvation, thirst and sometimes violent competition for scarce resources may effect a sharp reduction in population in a very short lapse (a population crash)"

If you took the time to read your own link, you would learn that nature has its own way of balancing population.

In Wisconsin we have a very overpopulated white tail deer herd. It is much more humane to have hunters harvest the animals then to let them die slowly due to starvation. This also lessens the number of deer that are hit by cars potentially harming the occupants of the car, not to mention that deer often do not die (at least not right away) and suffer after being hit by a car. Hunters also get to keep the meat, and many hunters donate meat to local food patries. Money used from hunting licenses does a lot for wildlife conservation, also.

Sure, we could do what you'd like, just let the population balance itself out through letting the animals die slowly through starvation or get hit by cars, but hunting allows everyone to benefit, and ultimately is better for the deer herd as a whole.

So really, you seem to be more the psychopath, wanting animals to die a slow torturous death, than hunters.

I think the count is starting to fall again, I know the count is down in both my zones this year.

Are you retarded?

Not really, but it should be up to 'man' to keep the predators out first and if that doesn't work go shooting.

I am pretty active in animal causes and most of the pest problems I have seen that the property owner's wanted to resort to killing, where deficiencies on their part.

Down here it's mostly raccoons, possums and feral cats. Most that have the biggest problems have basically garbage dumps in their back yards. Bag and contain your trash properly and most pets don't know about it.

A few have been fined due to discharging firearms. With houses 25 feet from each other and on all sides you don't go shooting in your backyard.

Good shoot on the coyote, now go out and try to kill as many of them as you can.

Its fun to shoot them this time of year, and local farmers and ranchers just love for you do do it on their property (though I typically go to BLM land around here).

I am always hopeful that a cougar will come into my electronic call, but most of the time I just get the retarded coyotes.

I would love to see a really big wol...I mean coyote come into my crosshairs one day, a whole pack preferably. If they have radio collars, I will just have to make sure it gets thrown on a train or something going through, so it can appear it is migrating.

My cougar/coyote gun is a Savage .243/12ga combo over/under. If they come in real close I will use the 12ga barrel, but most of the time I am shooting the .243 with handloaded 55g Nosler Ballistic Tips.

If it is real cold outside, you can prop them up to freak out neighbors, like a friend and I did at his place one winter on a 20 below zero day -

i hope you have a DoW tag for the cougar, and im fairly certain hunting wolves (and endangered spices) is prison time. Plus the crap you said about the radio collar is just over the top. you are the type of person the anti hunting crew in this thread should be flaming. it would be fun to find out where you live and forward this info to your Dept of Wildlife for possible poaching activities.

**Edit: your propping of dead animals in yards to freak out your neighbors is unsportsmanlike and just plain disgusting. You sir are a nitwit and i really hope the DoW investigates you and confiscates your vehicles, guns and throws your ass in prison.

no see, the pest was killing animals for no good reason, so he killed the pest.

i know, i know, it's hard to understand. outside of the big city we have the countryside, and it's not all cars and buildings there. there is something called wilderness, and it can be rough out there! sometimes you have to do man things, like shooting aggressive animals that are killing the food you will later eat in the big city. it's like a movie huh?

He has no right to kill anything, the guy should have got a better fence.

I'm guessing that the coyote at least ate the chicken. But the cat? I think he killed that because well...it's a cat. So maybe he did have a good reason for both.

Joking aside...I live in a largely rural area as well. And rule of thumb here too is....see a coyote? Shoot it.

actually he does. if the land owner gives him permission AND the state division of wildlife has no rules on it, he can shot anything he wants.

That's a legal right, I wasn't talking about legality, but ethically. Legally you can do al sorts of crazy bollocks, that doesn't make it acceptable.

wow, you really have had a sheltered life haven't you?

maybe he'll get 'lucky' and his local coyote pop will bloom, then no one will take care of it so people can get mauled like a canadian popstar, then we will see how feels about it

Right, wild animals kill for no reason. Generally we are the only wild animals that kill for no good reason.
