Hey newbs, he is obviously lying.

How would he know the motherboard was on rev 1 if it didn't turn on? Tell him to fuck himself, and point that statement out to PayPal.

You should pay me his refund instead.

Good point. Maybe he's talking about a pic that the OP sent or posted on Ebay.

The Bios revision wouldn't be on the board.

There is no REV 1 bios number.

There are two board versions, REV 1 and REV 2.

I don't know what else would be meant by "REV 1".

REV 1 boards have different bios files than REV 2 boards.

I'm not sure what the buyer means by being on REV 1 regarding the bios.

First REV 1 bios is F1

First REV 2 bios is FF

And it's not unusual for the bios revision to be on the board.

I took rev 1 as the version of the BIOS it was using. Otherwise, the buyer question is pointless, as the revision of the actual motherboard wouldn't be something you could upgrade yourself. Again, though, if this is the case, there's no way for him to know what version of the BIOS was on the board; the sticker means absolutely nothing since any version of the BIOS could be on the board, that's just what it ships with. He asked it like he knew it had not been updated.

I guess the buyer could just be a complete retard tossing a pointless revision number out there thinking it means the motherboard revision and that it couldn't have previously worked. This seems inline with their thought that it would be impossible for the motherboard to work with the first release BIOS, or the revision of the board, whichever they meant.

If it were me, I would try to get them to put something in writing giving you some more details. I would avoid verbal communication. I suspect it worked and they did something to it.

Stop it. What you posted (from the original picture) is not what you are talking about now. The Bios version would not be etched on a board as you pointed to in the first picture. The Bios version may be put on a sticker on the BIOS ROM chip, but again that is not what you were referring to in your original post about this.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/paypal-expanding-return-window-to-six-months-100614.html

In short, most Ebay buyers are fine. However, this policy allows the asshole ones to rent things for up to 6 months. I think it's a risk worth taking in most cases because like I said most people are fine, but you do need to be careful. For what good it may or may not do I do final packaging at the post office and film--in one single clip on my phone without it leaving the field of view--final taping and placing of item into the USPS box. I've never been challenged, though, so I don't know how paypal/ebay would take my unequivocal evidence. Of course that makes no gaurantee something electronic works or not, though if the seller here used insurance when he sold the mobo, and the item did qualify for that( you should never ship until paypal tells you it's okay), he shouldn't be out the $180.

OMG! Now that is bull shit! I hope this makes it so there are less sellers and ebay will learn their lesson.

No one said anything about the BIOS number being on the board until you posted.

I posted a pic showing that the board revision is printed on the board, in response to a post saying it was in the listing.

I think it's clear that he got "REV 1" from the listing. It's right there as part of the board description.

I don't see any bios version in the listing, and if it were there, it would be "F1".

It's clear he doesn't know what he is talking about. But may be an upside as OP can probably help him get it to post if he hasn't fried something already.

You need to find out what chip he's trying to run in it and get him to try different RAM in different slots.

Yah, ebay's returns are just fucking insane. All the buyer has to do is open a not as described case and ship something with a tracking number back (Brick, empty box, whatever) and you get the money taken out of your account.

I've dealt the way too many buyers who think used=brand new, but without the shrink wrap.

Well I still haven't heard back from the buyer. But I suppose the fact that he's probably a noob gives me a little piece of mind that the problem could be something stupid and easily corrected...... But then again he could have fried something because he was an idiot.

It's kind of a mixed bag, but used electronics should be 14 days period. If shit doesn't or whatever your issue is, the buyer should have 14 days to report it because it's just too easy to say shit never worked in the first place when it actually in worked for a week but it died because of a bad OC or faulty installation. This combined with the fact that damage to electronics leaves little to no physical evidence so there is no way to prove who or what actually caused the damage in the first place.

I'm honestly not sure what to think about this. On one hand he seems like a noob having problems and so he needs help.
But then why wait so long to report a defect and furthermore, why wait so long to respond to my messages? To me this seems like something that you would do if you wanted the problem resolved quickly.

I will say this. If that board comes back to me in non working condition; then he's not getting his money back from me. They can post the negative balance in my paypal and I'll get a new bank account number and swear off eBay for good.

Heh, eBay is the reason I hold 2 Paypal accounts.

Paypal #1: Made to receive payments from people off eBay. No Bank account connected.
Paypal #2: Made to get transfers from Paypal #1. After getting transfer from Paypal #1 (No fee for transfers), I deposit into my bank account.

If Paypal/eBay ever wants to screw me over from shit buyers I will tell them to go ahead and take it
