I test drove a VW Passat GLX w/ 4Motion today....

And all I have to say is WOW! Drove an A4 1.8T right after it and the Audi just couldn't compete w/ the VW options at the same price.

Hmmmm... decisions decisions

yakko, do you know, is the 4motion the same setup as Audi's quattro? The dealer told me that it was the same thing(parts, electronics, ect), but I've read a couple forums that have said that the 4motion is different from the Audi's.

Do you have any input on that?

As far as I know, the VW setup is a rebaged version of Audi's Quattro system (I have been known to be wrong though). After all, the Passat shares its platform with the A4 and A6 including the 4-link front suspension and engine lineup.

NFS4, I was thinking the same thing. The passat is just a A4/A6 hybrid and uses many of the A4 parts, so I figured they just stuck the Quattro on there and renamed it. Hell, I bet if you look close enough you'll see the Audi "rings" on a lot of the parts.

The post that I was reading said that the Audi sedans used one form of the Quattro, while the TT used a different version of it. This guy was saying that the 4motion was the same setup as the TT as opposed to the sedans.

I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Yeah, I do believe that the TT uses a different version, but I don't know the particulars. Who cares, it's a great 4WD system either way

The new Quattro and the 4-Motion are differnt but not that different. It is mainly that they use different transmissions in the Golf/Jettas/Beetles. I am not sure why the Passat is different though since it is based on the A4 chasis.

I'm not a big VW/Audi fan but's what's up with that S4 that thing looks pretty schweet... Milage is kinda a bummer but I'm used to 18 normally anyway from the Blown Truck but wow that's pretty quick for a sedan. Those at the Dealerships now?

Do dealerships let 16 year olds test drive? I have my license and all so I was just curious. Wouldn't mind test driving the S4 or the new M3.

Nope you have to be 18 or with your parent they still normally don't let you drive even then but salesmen will do ANYTHING for that sale...

I was able to test a Civic Si, mainly cause my uncle was the mechanic there. Guess there's only one way to find out if I can test drive the S4 or not.

Yep. Do the "build you own" thingy on VW's site and you'll find the GLX ONLY comes with a 5 speed.

To get the 5 speed Tiptronic, you have to add $1075 (not bad).

You'd get better gas milage, better acceleration, and a better price if you could go with a manual tranny on this bad boy.

Guess it's just VW's way of milking you of an extra $1075.

Tiptronic alone would unfortunately sway me from the sale, just as with the new Maxima GXE's they are great but if you want the CC package you have to rape it's performance with the automatic, a sacrifice I would be unwilling to make.

i'm 17 and i've test driven numerous cars: preludes, mr2's, eclipses, etc....some of the time the salesmen don't even come along, they just photo copy your license and then hand you the keys and tell you to have fun...
